Just wondering how many of you got the impression that too much of the general public's view of nurses seems unrealistically high or on the other side, they treat us with the same disdain as gum on the bottom of one's shoe. Not patients, more like visitors or in social circles.
I once had an obnoxious surgeon tell me to my face that nurses are babysitters.
And what are surgeons? Tailors for humans?
My quick wit and sharp tongue will likely get me in trouble more than once in my career, but I'll be damned if someone disrespects the profession of nursing in front of me.
I didn't see anything wrong with it. Those who practice the oldest profession are probably upset the title was switched out with waitress of all jobs?.
I just hate to dignify it as a profession as many prostitutes are more victims if not outright forced and coerced. There is human trafficking here and around the world. It is very sad. Women should not need to sell themselves to make a living, nor should anyone be forced into that life!

You're right. No one should be forced into that life. But why do you think women don't have any other options ("need to sell themselves")? Maybe they want to. Also, men participate in prostitution as well.

Some women are forced by war, poverty especially in traditional societies where women are not allowed education or to work outside the home. Many are forced thru human trafficking both here in America and throughout the world. They may even be sold by their parents in some countries for a bike or radio as girls are seen as a burden due to the need to provide a dowry in those societies. Sometimes family, friends, even other women lure girls and women into prostitution offering a job as a waitress or housekeeper, but that is a lie, instead their passports are taken from them and they are held prisoner and drugged and beaten. This is common knowledge. Yes sometimes men are forced into human trafficking although that is less common, women and children are the primary targets.
We are lucky to live in America where women are free to go to school and work and can do anything as far as their dreams can take them. But this is not true in many other countries where women are basically the property of their father or husband. In Afghanistan Malala Yousafzai was actually shot in the head to kill her to stop girls from going to school. Miraculously she survived and is of sound mind and body and a heroine advocating for girls and women to have the right to education and freedom!

Okay, but that is human trafficking, which is a violation of human rights. I'm asking why you automatically associate prostitution with human trafficking? It's a well regulated occupation in many countries commonly called 'escorting'. Sure, in some countries like Afghanistan or India girls are sold away by their families, or kidnapped as easy targets, and that is horrible. But consenting adults participate in it all the time in many countries. It's just that in the US, where sex is almost regarded as almost holy, prostitution is illegal and people for some reason associate it with sex trafficking. Obviously if a woman is forced into prostitution, then she is being sexually abused and her human rights are being violated. But you said you "hate to dignify it as a profession", when it is indeed a consensual occupation (I won't say 'profession' because generally that word is reserved for occupations that require a high level of education) in many countries.

Do you think a victim is going to tell the johns I'm being held against my will? No because she will be beaten and punished. I think it is false male fantasy to think there are lots of women who want to sleep with strangers for money. Also human trafficking even exists here in American, including many teens, either run a ways or abductions. Just because it is legal in Europe doesn't mean trafficking isn't happening there either. All you have to do is open your eyes and read the news to see it is a real problem made worse by the Media epidemic! Trafficked girls and women are moved around the country and the world where ever the money and johns are flowing, such as sports events like the world soccer games. You can hear about it on the news.

Everything you wrote has to do with human trafficking. My initial question was, why do you assume women who partake in prostitution are being forced to? Also it could be some men's fantasy, but I'm gay so it certainly isn't mine.
I think it's sad that anyone actually thinks selling one's body, being degraded to the status of a masturbatory aid for money.....would be someone's choice.
People do all sorts of things that will make others question their choices. What that is for you is probably completely different for others.
