After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
Hi! I've been following this forum for the last couple of days like a mad person, but I am hoping we can hear soon regarding the results. I called yesterday and the representative said that 1.) everyone gets a credit check 2.) we should hear back by no later than Sept. 30th. I know this is not helpful at all... I wonder why the turnaround for this year's credit check/response is delayed compared to the previous years... ah the anxiety....
I find it difficult to believe that everyone gets a credit check but then again we have not had too many people post that they have not received one, I guess it could be true. On a side note, will the scholarship pay for a computer if needed for school?
From looking at last year's thread, there are several people that never received a credit check. I think that interest in this post probably skyrocketed amongst those of that actually got a credit check so that's probably why it seems like most of us have had checks.i know that I didnt even look for a thread until I realized, by accident, that my credit had been checked. Given the expense, it just seems unrealistic that everyone gets credit checks. My assumption is that they have a script and probably just tell callers that because they are supposed to.
I have been following the feed for a bit and did want to let you all know that I have applied and still have not received the credit check. I am a BSN prepared nurse going into a FNP program. In the first tier for funding and I have a 4.0 GPA.
Idk if a laptop per se is covered (though that and an iPad with certain tech specs are required) but with the less strain on my personal finances I would be able to purchase one myself.
I google NC Scholarship computer and found a PDF invoicing guide for schools. Computer fees are covered, but not sure what that means exactly. It doesn't list computer/laptop under ineligible expenses.
You guys!!!! Email received with subject title "ACTION REQUIRED: NURSE Corps SP Award Confirmation Requested"!!!! I legit came here to post this first before reading the whole email and going to the link in it.
Edit: Application status has changed to "Finalist for Award" and acceptance confirmation needs to be done by 7/31.

I really wish we found out sooner. I need to know if I can afford to purchase a parking pass, extra scrubs, a laptop, etc
