Starting this thread for those who applied for Nurse Corps loan repayment in 2021

Just wondering if anyone would be willing to reply--have any RNs (not APRNs/NPs) been awarded yet? From what I can kind of gather, it seems like they've most of the people posting are APRNs--but I definitely could be wrong.
At least what I can tell from last year, it seems like people were finding out until the very end of September, so still keeping my fingers crossed! Congrats to everyone who have already found out and good luck to those still waiting! ?
For reference--DTI (WAY >)200% HPSA score: 20 Tier 1
Thanks in advance!
Hi there, many RNs have been awarded also. Have you rechecked the HRSA site? Is your application still listed as under review? Don't give up hope!

My status still says under review and I'm trying not to lose hope but its looking like I'm not going to get it. ?
@USLEEP Do you mean they are notifying people until Sep 30th? How did you find out? Thanks!
@chocoholic1 on the application, it says the cycle ends Sept 30th, so they will be sending notifications until then. Don't lose hope!

Hi! Thank you so much for responding! Just keeping my fingers double and triple crossed over here!
Oh YES--I check multiple times a day ? I'm still "under review" --also forgot to mention, my credit was checked 6/10.

Make sure you check your spam mail because some people said their confirmation of interest, went into spam. With your DTI and HPSA score, I can't see you not getting it. I too, have a DTI of > 200% so I get how you feel. It will happen! I'm not sure that credit check has any correlation with the timeline, but incase it does, my credit was checked in May and I found out in August. Best of luck to you!

I am an RN, BSN. This was my third year applying and I got awarded. I work as an endoscopy nurse in a low income, high needs area. My DTI is 170%. .HPSA: 16 (Primary), 18 (Mental) I was credit checked in May and was notified of award August 12th, officially awarded with cosignature August 20th which is my contract start date. People do find out later in September so don’t give up hope yet!
Also - YES private loans are also covered by this program. The majority of mine are private, all co-signed by my parents, and they were all covered. I’ve read a few posts where people said they are not but that’s not true. As long as they went towards your nursing education, private co-signed loans are covered. Also - you cannot pull state taxes from the amount awarded each month. Every penny of the money that is given each month has to go on the loans. The program automatically pulls federal taxes for you.
@heymynameisLA I am also checking my status daily... Sometimes even multiple times a day LOL. Your HPSA score and DTI are both a lot higher than mine, I would be shocked if you didn't get it.

What's your DTI and HPSA score?

Anyone have a letter draft to share, or willing to work on one together so that we can all make it easier for each other put pressure on our legislators to change this for us?
I don't feel I'm a great writer and would love someone who is a better writer to modify this. Shorter is always better too, but.... this is what I sent to Tina Smith's office (Minnesota senator - 651-221-1016). I plan to call her office also this week. Anyone else in Minnesota, please reach out to her. She's big on rural health and mental health.
Dear Tina Smith, I would like nurses to have the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment program be exempt from federal taxes just as it is for doctors and practitioners through the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment program.
It’s a fortuitous time and way to reward nurses/front line health care workers working in non-profit facilities. It would be another great way to encourage nurses and nurse practitioners to work in non-profits/community health/community mental health facilities in high need areas.
The basics/differences of the 2 loan repayment programs:
Nurse Corps Loan Repayment program - MUST PAY FEDERAL TAXES
-For: Nurses (RN's, APRN's), Nurse Faculty
-Must work in NON-PROFIT facility or eligible nursing school (for nurse faculty)
-Must have high debt to income ratio (>100% ) to receive funding
-Must work in high need area (HPSA score >14)
National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment program -FEDERAL TAX EXEMPT
-For: Physicians, PA's, NP's, Midwives, Dentists
-Can work in FOR PROFIT facility
-Only the NHSC SUD programs at SUD facilities allow registered nurses to qualify for this loan repayment program
-Must work in high need area (HPSA score >14)
Student loan forgiveness is now exempt from federal taxes. Student loan repayments through the NHSC program are exempt from federal taxes. Loan repayments through the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment and Nurse Corps Scholarship programs are not exempt from income.
I encourage you to consider action to make the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment program exempt from federal taxes to reward nurses and encourage them to work in non-profits in high need/rural areas.
