2020 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hey people! I've been interested in the HRSA Nurse Corps Loan repayment program for several years, just never took the time to apply. I am full-time nurse faculty in an BSN program. For those who have applied before:

1. When does the cycle usually open? ( I have signed up for updates)

2. How do you calculate your DTI? (This is all new to me?)

Thanks for your responses. Hopefully we can kick some student loan debt in the butt!! I'm excited and haven't even applied yet! Blessings to you all!

Yes, I have consolidated loans. Consolidated loans are fine as long as they are all from your nursing education. If you have non-nursing degree, you should not consolidate those loans with your nursing degree(s) loans because it'll disqualify the whole loan.

I just checked and saw that my contract was cosigned yesterday afternoon! Ecstatic is an understatement! Good luck everyone!

Would you mind sharing your DTI and HPSA score? I apologize if I have missed it in the other threads. Awards seem completely random! I saw a couple people with crazy DTI >200 not approved. CONGRATS on your award!

Yes it is still worth it! I have paid down $78,000 over the past two years.

Thanks! Would you mind sharing your DTI and HPSA score from the year you were initially awarded?

Congratulations to you all! I’m happy for all of you!

Where do you see that at?

@USLEEP My DTI is >200%; I'm nursing faculty in tier 2.

@Jess Rena The co-signature is under the applicant signature on the second page of the signed contract.

Hi, quick question for you folks who applied to Nurse Corps Loan Repayment - anyone do this with refinanced student loans? I am planning to apply NEXT application cycle, and very confused about if Nurse Corps will repay refinanced student loans or if it will only cover the original loans. Thank you very much in advance!

Got my cosignature today as well! That makes it official from the way I'm reading the contract, yes??

Go to the contract and under where you signed  there should be a cosignature.

Congratulations! I received cosignature on contract today as well! My status still says “accepted award-under final review” though. Is that normal or do you know?

I believe so from what I’ve read in previous threads.

I got my award confirmation today for Nurse Corps LRP. Hooray!

@GreenTeaIceCream I made it through with both federal loans and refinanced private loans. Totally allowed. Follow the application instructions on the nurse corps site. You need the statement of account from your original lender and your current lender. Easy but time consuming so make sure you give yourself at least 2 weeks to get the info. Big reason why people miss the app due date.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Precepting, Education.

Congratulations to all who have received award confirmations so far. Have any RNs received awards yet? Looks to me like they're still just working  through NPs at this point. I'm hoping that this is the case since I am still waiting for a status change. ?
