2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Published

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

My application is still under review as well. I've been checking my emails constantly for updates. My score is 13. How do I know my Tier & DTI percentage?

DTI is determined by your student loan debt divided by your base annual salary. Your tier is determined by facility score and DTI. The breakdown on what gets you in what tier is in the handbook for the application. Tier 1 is DTI >100% and site score of 14-25, Tier 2 is <100% and site score of 14-25, Tier 3 is greater than 100% DTI but site score of 0-13, and Tier 4 is less than 100% with site score of 0-13.

So I got an award (yay!) except it’s extremely low? It’s lower than even the interest for one year on my loans. Anyone else get an award that was much lower than expected?

Thank you! In this case, I am Tier 3. I wonder if they consider all Tier 1 applicants as priority for the award, and so on?

I think how it works is they start with Tier 1, and then once in the tier they look at highest to lowest DTI in that tier. Then if there is award money remaining, the move on to next tier and do the same.

YAY! Is it a set amount overall or a monthly payment you are referring to as low? I have never received an award before (still under review, BOO) but I thought they looked at eligible student loans and based it on that.

Which program did you get the offer for? The Nurse Corps is a flat percent of your eligible student loans, which I believe is 65%?

Are you tier one with more than 100%dti? The amount you will see is less than the actual 60% of your loans because it’s taxed like income. My DTI was like 240% and they sent me $2,600 per month. It should say all the loans you are approved for maybe one of your loans wasn’t eligible. Once you have access to the portal as a participant you’ll see the payment authorization worksheet. Take a look there

What program did you apply for?

I wasn’t able to see which loans they approved- I’m assuming they didn’t approve most of them. I’ll take another look at the site and see if I can find that information anywhere. Thanks!!

Yes, I had more than 200%DTI and Tier 1. Maybe it’s the monthly amount? It doesn’t say if that’s the total or monthly total on the award letter! So confusing. I’m accepting either way.

Which program did you apply for? Did you hear via email or actual mail?
