My good friend is a charge nurse at the hospital I used to work at. She told me that a nurse called in sick because he had a herpes outbreak (genital). What the blank? Is that legitimate? I think I would rather have made something up like a cold rather than that..

Perhaps the lesions are in other areas besides genitals, or perhaps they are on his brain! That is definately not something I would share with a co-worker:eek:...not for anything, but the reason anyone calls out is no ones business. I would not be happy if I was reading this thread and it was me:no:! Your friend could be in a lot of trouble. JMOMaisy

I wouldn't have said it was herpes outbreak. If I was the charge nurse I also would have known enough to keep the info to myself and not share it with others.

He also called it in to the HUC and left the message with her. He isn't (nor should he be) ashamed of it, it's just the rationale leaves me perplexed. Can I call in for PMS?

It's not your buisness what this nurse went off sick with, and it's not your buisness to share the info. That, my dear, is called gossip! That particular charge nurse was way deep in the brown stuff, if the person calling sick knew that the reasons for it were being shared and broadcast. And, no it makes no difference if that person has confided already that this condition exists...its not YOUR problem, it's definately not your buisness.Indiscretion, confidentiality breach, plain old gossiping...who would like to be on the other side of that? I sure would not, I'd like my private stuff to stay private!

It's just such a fine line between sharing and opening wounds. Imagine being that nurse, reading this thread. Confidentiality should exist to protect nursing staff as well as patients.
