“It was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. it was like a part of me was missing,” Slayton said.

Single mom and nurse Katie Slayton was arrested for driving under the influence as well as felony child neglect because her son was in the car. Her son went to foster care for 9 weeks.  This happened after she worked a grueling 12 hour shift in the COVID-19 ward.

What kinds of personal sacrifices have you had to endure for your job?

Laura,

maybe you’re misunderstanding me. I didn’t know adderall has those effects was all I was saying. And after watching the video she shouldn’t drive. That’s it.  That’s all.

Nobody should drive if they are impaired, but the point was she took her PRESCRIBED MEDICATION. WHICH MAKES IT LEGAL in all 50 states. YOU have never worked and then sat down and just realized how tired you really were? As their only comment. HIPPA still stands it wasn’t abolished.

The SCOTUS just threw away precedent which established that women have a right to privacy.  That right is now gone and political whims and religious beliefs will dictate laws in states led by Republicans. Do you think that that nurse has a right to keep government out of her pharmaceutical plan of care? The SCOTUS doesn't.

I think the fact that this article about this woman was even printed somewhere so the OP could find it is an invasion of that nurse's privacy.  THAT's why SCOTUS was mentioned.  Everyone will remember the story but not the fact that she received no charges.

Adderall doesn’t have those effects at therapeutic levels. The person saying that is a brand new account and that’s the only post, which makes me suspicious that they’re a troll who posted that to try and get a rise out of us.

Yea me too, I had sympathy at first, but after watching the video, I wouldn't have wanted her to drive home with her child.

I thought DUI meant they tested you right away at the traffic stop and had some kind of machine that alerted them that you were actually under the influence.

I wish she could have just taken a quick nap after work or I wish she could have explained to the daycare her situation and they let her rest a bit there.  You're right tho it is lose lose situation.

I do have sympathy for her. They did not have a breathalyzer in order to see if there was any alcohol on her breath, to be followed up with another one done prior to her being booked at the jail. If she had been drinking, there most likely have been an odor on her breath as well. I can tell you that I would fail that test miserably while stone cold sober, let alone had I been drinking. The blood test should not have taken so long to come back, that was awful.

She's a fool for taking Adderall and driving with a child... like seriously..

Ummm, Adderall should not make you sleepy. If properly prescribed and dosed, it is supposed to help with focus and attention, but if you are totally exhausted, it's not going to help that. It wouldn't hurt if before posting, you look up your meds...

I know, because I have serious ADD/ADHD and take Adderall. Believe me, it really does help, if I forget to take it, my assistant will kick me out of my clinic to go home and take it, or she will kill me by the end of the day.

Hmmm. I know people who take this and had no idea it had this effect with driving. Learn something new everyday.

It does NOT have this effect with driving. This person does not know anything about Adderall. I have serious ADD/ADHD, it is rampant in my family. If I don't take my Adderall on a daily basis, people would hate me. Trust me. It has absolutely no effect on my ability to drive at all.

DUI doesn't just apply to alcohol.. it's general for under the influence. Taking meds and driving when the meds say you can't drive doesn't excuse that you COULD be charged for DUI. I do have sympathy for her as it seems she had no one to back her up to get the child or even take the child in their care. These type of situations should be 24 to 48 hrs for testing though and prioritized when there is a child involved to clear the mom faster.. but gov is usually painfully slow.

That's your anecdotal POV. That doesn't not apply to every situation. If you are in the medical field and think that you know more than the science and testing.. you are too godly for me ?

Once the full effects of the Adderall are known to the patient, driving may be done safely.  Look it up.

I never claim to know more than any other person, however, I am very familiar with this particular medication. I take it, my children take it, and as a school nurse, I administer it to several children. Just for my job alone, I need to know the workings and side effects of these medications in the event a student has an adverse effect from it.

So WillWill, I am assuming that you are not in the medical field. Am I correct?
