Hey I was wondering who has applied to the Nursing Program @ Nova starting fall 2010?
I would like to know of any updates any one has heard on the process, interviews, etc.
thanks!! best of luck!!
Glad no more interviews.. but not sure how strict they are about the gpa's now? I hope they dont turn into MDC that solely look at that and nothing else. I hope they take the essay and references into consideration.. I wonder how high they are going for gpa's and how low they are willing to take as well..... so many questions now because sometimes the interviews are what saved a lot of students from not getting in.. interviews were suppose to be a very important admission process... so nervous now... grrr
i hope they dont either, i dont have the strongest gpa so i am not sure how they are scoring this. I mean do the essay and evals count at all? I just really hope they dont start looking like MDC with their selection process... i wonder how low they are going with the GPA and how whats the cut off... last semester i had friends that got in with a 3.2 and 3.3 so i dont know how it is not... praying for all of you!!!! crossing my fingers!!!!
hey everyone! i so excited to be re-applying to nova. i had a situation similar to mrs.ant0125; i had applied for spring of 2010 and i got accepted to ft. myers but never received any letters from ft. lauderdale and my adivsor who was helping me through the process left the school! they got all of my paper work "mixed up." it was a crazy year. anyway, i work for baptist and i had decided to give nova another opportunity because they have prestigious nursing program. i really hope we all get accepted into the nursing program.
i was reading the blogs and just found out at there will not be any interviews?! do we know if that is for this coming year? i will be meeting with my advisor, denver on tuesday and i can find out further information regarding this falls admissions process. like everyone else, i hope they do not become like mdc. this will be horrible. when i did the interview last semester, i realized the importance of an interview.
hey Mvaz,
Yes the interview process has stopped from this class on... they said that they are no longer to be interviewing just focusing one the applications or what not... this is also very nerve wracking because i knew from other classes that the interviews were the major part of the admissions. So now that this has popped up we are going to be the first class that has no interviews, i think now its going to be much harder to get in because of it. I really hope they look at everything and not just gpa's. I also applied months ago and havent heard anything. I also spoke with one my friends and she applied months ago and they still havent cashed her check... but they cashed mine. so I really just think that they are backed up and very messy with everything.... so i dunno people keep positive and best of luck.. keep me posted

That is horrible! when I did the interview last semester i promise it wasn't that bad. They asked a lot of common questions (biggest achievement, why do you want to be a nurse, why nova, tell me about a hard decision you had to make) I thought it was a great opportunity for the student to shine. I really do think this makes the admission process much harder. I hope they consider our application, letter of recommendations and personal essay.
Also, the school usually takes a long time to respond. After my interview, they told everyone that we wouldn't get a response for about 4-6 weeks! I don't know how different its going to be this year since things are changing things but last semester it was all very lengthy! Plus, the deadline for applications is May 1 thus we most likely won't be hearing anything until after because I'm sure there are going to be some students who put there applications in last minute. Nova needs to have all applications before they can start making decisions, it will only be fair.... But we must keep positive and hopeful. I really want to be a nurse shark !!
PS. if i get any further information on Tuesday from my adviser I will post it! Good luck everyone
Please keep me posted when you meet with the counselor tomorrow..... i just spoke with one of my friends and she just called Nova this morning and one of the girls said that they have a lot of apps that have come in and we probably wont hear anything until after the deadline..... this is sooo frustrating but what can we do... i am looking into other schools as well just in case you have to keep your options open ... but i agree that the interviews was a time for the students to shine and see how they are, because to me a gpa really doesn't make you a good or bad RN its just a number...... but whatever i just hope they do not act like MDC..... well keep us posted here...
Hello everyone! I'm new to the site and have been reading your posts on NOVA's program thus far. I sent in my application back in February and like the rest of you haven't heard back from them...its nice to know I'm not the only one in the dark! I'm shocked to hear theres not interview though! I mean they don't even require an entrance exam! so i've heard the interview was a major part of the process...we're now reaching the end of march and I'm hoping we will start to hear from Nova in the month of April! i guess we should all keep each other posted on any new info from the department. Fingers crossed!
ok, so I had an appointment with my advisor. As everyone knows, no more interviews. There is also talk about possibly adding a test for admission (but not for this entry- maybe in the future? Regarding this does not concern us) we are the first class they are going to experiment with. The reason for the changes is due to the new personnel in nursing administration and they are trying to make adjustments that "benefit and are better" for the student. It was also explained that they will be more thorough regarding acceptance and denials. The nursing department is to make notes as to why "we" were denied on our files. Also, 20 students have already been accepted into the program for fall 2010!! He did not say what the GPA for those students were. All he explained is that it's very "subjective" and they (nursing committee) are considering EVERYTHING that is on your transcripts. Example, how many drops/withdrawls, how many repeats, if you have failed any courses (whether they are nursing or not) GPA on science and math, overall GPA, if you have completed any degrees, etc. The biggest part of our acceptance is going to be based on our transcripts and GPA. The letters of recommendation and personal essay are there to possibly help and "get to know" the student on a more personal level besides grades. Lastly, there are only 100 seats for fall of 2010. After we have been accepted we can all apply for the Baptist scholars (or for those that are interested can apply to the Baptist Scholar program). Nova is supposed to send out the Baptist Scholars application with our acceptance letters. 40 of those 100 students are to be selected for the Baptist Scholars program and attend classes at Baptist Hospital (except for the first semester because we have to take the advance anatomy and physiology at Ft. Lauderdale- all this will be explained once we get closer to getting our letters and will be explained during orientation- no need to worry now). The remaining 60 will attend classes at the main campus in Ft. Lauderdale. My advisor said that most students who are considered "qualifying" like if you have a decent GPA and never failed a science course those are students that are going to take a long time receiving a letter because there will be a lot to consider- to be patient!!
I really hope this information was helpful. Lets all cross our fingers. As soon as anyone of you gets a letter please inform us and if you don't mind post your GPA. Lol. Good luck and lets keep in touch!!
OMG this information was superrrrrrr helpful!!! I heard that they might be adding an entrance exam like the rest of them its called the TEAS test or something... its almost like an SAT.... i know they are being very selective because guess what...... you are all going to faint.... one of my friends already got a letter.. and she was denied. She applied the last week of January. She works with me and she said that the letter was very generic but that the reason she was denied was because she had dropped her math classes and had retaken it several times and even though math is not part of their curriculum i guess that they were looking for it or something.. and her GPA was not substantial... whatever that means... she has a 3.2 GPA and never has failed a science class straight A's in all her nursing requirements except for chemistry which she got B's. Her only downfall was math, but that she is being placed as a deferred student.. however, she got accepted to Barry's accelerated program which is still a BSN and you are done within the year or so. Can you believe that!!!!!!! Right now i am totally on edge!!!! She has been crying all day since this was her first choice... She has an appointment tomorrow with one of the admissions counselors there I dont know what more they can tell her but I will keep you guys posted... I already had several friends just not apply to Nova at all because of their new admissions procedure... I am a nervous wreck at this point. She said that as long as you applied earlier in the year and haven't heard anything then you must be in the clear... i hope that holds true for all of us. But i thought this information would be helpful. Let me see what else I can find out.
:crying2:
