NP school post RN discipline

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hello there,

I am an RN post probationary discipline. Thinking about going to NP school for masters, but worried if I'll get another probationary term with my NP license which would be a deal breaker since I was on probation with my RN license. Anyone experience this same problem. I would love any feedback!! thanks!

@SpankedInPittsburgh may have some thoughts here. I don't know if I can summon him but you can probably put his name in the search bar and find posts. Good luck!

My completion date is coming up and I have spoke to several FNP programs and directors. I might be able to answer some of your questions

Hello, kchilk, BSN thank you for your reply. unfortunately, I do not have the service to direct message you. However, I would love to hear your experience with speaking with FNP programs and directors and what your course of direction will be. would really apprecaite the feedback as I am really worried about having to go to FNP program and going through the whole probationary period all over again!

I'm in the middle of my NP Program, I just had to let the school know and they signed an acknowledgement letter.  I have heard of people not being accepted while they are in a monitoring program, each program may have different requirements.   Good luck!!

What about after? Will your NP license be disciplined? Have the RN record attached?

The thought of going through monitoring again because I furthered my education makes me sick.

My understanding is I can take boards when I'm done with school and they hold my certificate until I'm finished with monitoring.  where I live it's non disciplinary and private so it doesn't show on your license.   I'll have to double check about if it will affect my NP license, my guess is it won't, since I wasn't a NP when it happened.  It wouldn't make sense to have to go through monitoring again for the same offense, kind of like double jeopardy.

I've reached a speed bump with school.   I'm having trouble getting because I'm in the monitoring program.   I'm taking this next class off, going to try and get a job and see if I can go through a broker to get insurance for clinicals.  I may have to see if I can switch to another program that covers it for the students if I can't find it.  ?

I am so sorry to hear that.. Will the insurance companies give you any clues to how insurance would work for you when you complete the program? Even though your discipline is private they always ask those questions.

So frustrating!

all they said was that I could reapply in a year.  I'm hoping and praying that as time goes on I won't be considered such a "risk".

I am an RN finishing probation in Illinois. I have a public discipline now. I just signed my reinstatement paperwork today. I have a lot of questions about going to NP school. What are you referring to about having probation again?

Basically does getting a higher level degree mean we go through it all again? I could see them making us do more for trying to better ourselves.

I don't know, maybe I am just jaded. ?
