Putting school on hold right now, found a job and need to recover a bit financially. I may start back during the last year of my contract so I can begin practicing after I get my license

Insurance was good for a year, which would cover my clinical rotations. There was all kinds of exclusions, etc. but it satisfied the school’s requirements. I was in NP school and have about a year left. Taking a break for now. My school didn’t have an issue with it, but we needed malpractice insurance for clinical, and literally nobody would insure me. I found a broker who found a company to do it, but its crazy expensive, like 2500. I have heard of people not being able to get in while they are in monitoring, but I think it depends on the school. I worry about getting credentialed and insurance after I’m done.

I’m sorry this is happening. Try to stay in the here and now, the future will always be there and you can’t change the past. Use this time away from nursing to heal and get yourself where you need to be so when you do return you will be the best version of you. In my experience the stories I told myself in my head and the anxiety of the situation were often much worse than the reality. Hang in there!

Agree with you 100%!! Just knowing I could be pulled at anytime for hair or nails is enough to keep me from even taking a chance. I’m not sure how it works in our program about the rotation of selected tests, etc. So far I’ve only been selected for urine. I know we are guaranteed 2 pee tests a month, I think the rest is up to the discretion of the board

I pay to have an extensive background check done on myself before if I was you, and if you need to consult a criminal attorney who deals with expungement issues. Good luck!

Finish my MSN and take it from there. It shouldn’t be a problem with school, my grades were good and the program director signed an acknowledgement of me being in monitoring, the only barrier was I couldn’t get malpractice insurance for clinicals. The BON encouraged me to stay in school, I just hope its not an issue once I graduate.

I think if you get hair tested it will show up, I think hair goes back 3 or 6 months, once you get past that time period you should be OK. Fingers crossed

I would call the state you live in and the state you want to move to and ask their NSG board, hopefully you won’t have to repeat any of this!
