  1. I’m lucky to live in the great state of Ohio as well. ? No, I don’t think those restrictions can be completely lifted. However, given board approval, I am allowed to deviate from the permanent restrictions.
  2. Looking at it that way, I think you’re correct. I believe the permanent restrictions are what keeps my license encumbered. I doubt they will lift the permanent restrictions altogether. I think it is a way to continue monitoring at some level. My permanent restrictions consist of not being able to supervise, no home health and similar stipulations without board approval. Which means although they are permanent, I can and have received permission from the board to manage and supervise.
  3. Thank you for your response and congratulations on your achievement. My license is unencumbered(completion of monitoring and probation) but I do have permanent practice restrictions. These permanent practice restrictions are up to the discretion of the board and can be lifted depending on the situation. I was already denied admittance to one university d/t not having an unencumbered license even though it is like I said, unencumbered. I have applied to a different university in hopes that I can get in there. I really think it’s up to the school and how bad they want your money because as I stated, my license is unencumbered. What school are you attending? Is the program online? What specific program is it? Thank you again for responding.
  4. Hello again everyone, Has anyone pursued getting a bachelor’s or master’s degree post discipline. If so, was your license encumbered?
  5. I have the same permanent practice restrictions. I spoke with my monitor today as I had applied to a university and was denied due to an encumbered license. He says it is forever encumbered due to the permanent restrictions. That’s incredibly tough. Again, you are so close though. It ducks but two more months. You’ve come so far. I hope the best for you.
  6. Come on now, you can do this. What’s two more months of 6 years. That’s child’s play. Like I said, I asked to be released early. Just ask in time to be released before their next meeting. Can only say no. Otherwise I think you’ll end up waiting. Thinking back I think I asked too soon. I was probably 6 months to a year out. They denied me so I didn’t ask again.
  7. I’m not certain. I can tell you that my 3 year mark was in August. I wasn’t released until October. I had to wait an additional period of time due to the timing. However, I think you can ask for early release. It’s worth a shot. Worse they can do is say no.
  8. I see. I don’t doubt the accuracy. It appears they have the dates correct as far as board action and my time during suspension and probation. Other than that I don’t know what else to say. Again, as far as I’m concerned, my license isn’t encumbered. Sorry I don’t know if I answered your question.
  9. Completed probation about 8-9 months ago. Once I met the time requirements I contacted the board and asked to be released. They held their next meeting and I was granted the end of my probation. Once that decision is made, my monitor contacted me and I was released from probation. Hope that helped.
  10. Well, it appears that if you use nursys.com it will state whether or not your license is unencumbered. I was unaware as Ohio’s board license system just states whether or not you’ve been disciplined. Just difference in wording and system I guess. Yes, it has been a long road getting back here. I can’t even begin. It took me over 5 years just to return to the hospital. Those who’ve been through it know. It sucks but the price I had to pay and apparently still pay. I was able to speak to the admissions manager and she said(and she’s right) that ultimately it is the decision of the board. I have to live with that. Anyone have any experience with this to share?
  11. Hi all, I am a recovering addict and am trying to go back to school. I am nearly 6 years post-discipline and recently applied to graduate school. I was ultimately denied due to having an encumbered license. Does anyone have any experience with returning to school after having your license disciplined? Will my license stay encumbered until I retire? Thanks for any advice and help.
