There might also be acute care NP roles that work 3 12 hour shifts. In general primary care, with the exception of Urgent Care, most NPs work five 8 hour days, although many practices also have four 10 hour shifts as an option.
Most outpatient practices do not have 12 hour office hours. I've worked 4 9 hour shifts up until recently. Just switched to 5 8 hour shifts. Keep in mind if you decide to go the FNP route, that pretty much disqualifies you from an inpatient role.
Both Urgent Care facilities I used to work for had NPs work 12 hour shifts. There was also the option of doing a 6 or 8 hour shift to help with busy times. We had several who did two 12's and one 6 or 8 hour shift as well. Only down side is that usually Urgent Cares are open 363 to 365 days a year so weekends are still a usual must.
