Any jobs out there??? I'm in Las Vegas & been thinkin about appling to N. Lake Tahoe/Carson City area (that way I don't have to get my CA license. TY!

We have quite a few opening at my hospital now. There's still quite a nursing shortage in Northern Nevada. I don't think it's nearly as hard to get a job here than down in Vegas.

I love it out here - I enjoy living in small towns close enough to go the city when I want to do "city stuff". I've been running back and forth to Reno regularly.

I was just in Winnemucca today, stopping at the Flying J on my way home to Reno. Just had a pretty awesome roadtrip up to Seattle and eastern WA for a week! :)

Hello! I will throw my hat in, I am not an RN yet, I am a second year student at Great Basin College in Elko!

We heard a rumor that Orvis lost their creditidation? Is this true? I really hope not I know two, who should have graduated this May. I hope they are ok.

Second, I saw a second of a news cast, are the Renown nurses striking?

Sorry, to load one post with this stuff, but with nursing school, I have to make good use of my time.

That rumor about Orvis goes around every semester and it's never true. The May graduates are fine and most have already taken and passed NCLEX...I work with a few of the May new grads from Orvis, and some 4th semester students currently are doing clinicals in my unit and my good friend is a 1st semester student there.

Renown nurses aren't striking. In fact, their union and Renown finally came to a tentative agreement that is being voted on yesterday and today. It sounds as though they've made some good progress with establishing nurse to patient ratios, better benefits, and improved salaries.

I don't know many details, but did see an article in the Reno paper saying that the nurses at Renown and St. Mary's have voted in the union. I'm sure others here will know more about this.

The unions were voted in long ago. It's that they've finally negotiated terms of actual contracts at both facilities that are being voted on. Let's hope it was worth the wait!

If so do they have psych? Who is your company? How far from Vegas is the Hosp? and will you get a reference fee-If I sign with them I will use you- Thanks K

I did see in the article that patient ratios were to be a big part of the terms. I hope it is worth it to them.

I'm not currently in the Las Vegas area - I'm in northern Nevada, but will be going to a hospital close to Las Vegas after this contract. I'm not sure what companies you have checked with, but most of the larger ones should have contracts in Vegas. I'm with Cross Country, but you might also check with some of the other large companies as well (just because the large companies are likely to have more and more diverse positions available)
