The Nevada forum seems to be heavily represented by Vegas... How many Northern Nevadans are out there?

Just curious :)

Any chance you could tell me about where you work

I'm in a small town in northern Nevada right now - very small - 24 bed hospital. I work OB, so not really sure of openings in other depts. I can find out though and send you a pm if you would want to look at anything this remote. It is about an 8-9 hour drive from here to Las Vegas though.

Hello! I will throw my hat in, I am not an RN yet, I am a second year student at Great Basin College in Elko!

We heard a rumor that Orvis lost their creditidation? Is this true? I really hope not I know two, who should have graduated this May. I hope they are ok.

Second, I saw a second of a news cast, are the Renown nurses striking?

Sorry, to load one post with this stuff, but with nursing school, I have to make good use of my time.

Orvis has not lost its accreditation-as a matter of fact for the calendar year 2008, Orvis has the highest NCLEX pass rate in the state--91%!!!:yeah:

Thanks would be appreciated

I did see in the article that patient ratios were to be a big part of the terms. I hope it is worth it to them.

Well they're only guidelines to follow. They're not state wide mandated nurse to patient ratios.

30 % increase over five years for renown in salary isn't that bad. But you have to count the 4% each year we already receive. so that makes it 20 % over five years. an extra 10 % on top of that after five years isn't that much. i'm bummed.

Specializes in paramedic.

Hello, I'm a paramedic here in town and would that increase my chances of getting into tmcc's nursing program. My bio classes will be completed soon and i don't understand why it's so hard to get into their program. Any suggestions? Whats the deal with tmcc and what are the days and hours that your in class? Thanks and go bolts

Hi. Being a paramedic in previous years would have allowed you to get into the program easier. This was because getting into the program was based on points and if your three mandatory classes (Bio 223,224,and 251) GPA was greater than 2.75. Typically someone with 13+ points would be allowed admission into the program. I believe being a paramedic allowed you an extra point or two. Since then they've phased out the point based system and went to a HESI with GPA admission type system.

But now the admission process has changed. Please go to http://www.tmcc.edu/nursing/downloads/documents/NURSAdmissionProcedures.pdf to see what you need to get into the program. Please refer to the TMCC Nursing website at http://www.tmcc.edu/nursing/.

It will tell you all you need to know. But it sounds like TMCC is now wanting the best and brightest (not that having a lower GPA means you're not bright) to go into the nursing program based on test and GPA scores. You need to get at least B's and hopefully A's on the required classes plus you need to score high on the HESI.

Since it is an affirmative action institution, you know who you have to be to have that edge. hope this helps.

oh and if that sounds like to much to deal with, go to UNR .. have at least a 3.6 gpa and you should be in their program.

Hi there,

Big Reno/Tahoe fan here. I hope to move back after NS, done is May. It's nice to find a least a few people not talking about Las Vegas! It's been many years since I live there, but I visit every year. I can't wait. :heartbeat

Hi All - I'm currently working as an RN in the Bay Area. However, I'm considering moving full-time to our vacation home in Incline Village in the future. There is a small hospital within walking distance of my house (Incline Village Community). Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee would be pretty close also. Anyone have experience with any of these facilities? What's the general nursing supply like in the North Lake Tahoe region? I hear there's a lot of per diem work available. I could consider working in Reno or Carson also. Thanks so much for any advice anyone can provide! :nurse:
