North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!

Published

Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

I don't think the LASSI tells them anything correct...when you are already "IN" nursing school. That was the last thing we wanted to be doing!

As far as the HESI goes, many schools use that as an entrance exam! So.....keep up with your A&P! :chuckle

I knew that, but I think there are different "levels" of the HESI. That wouldn't make sense to expect someone who isn't even in to know 2 semesters worth of nursing school info.

I am "happy" to tell you all that ECC will start using hesi as an entrance exam. I picked up a new application packet at the resource center at NLC and it had all the new info about hesi.

There are entrance hesi and in-program hesi tests.

Aww, man! When does this Hesi entrance stuff start? I don't want to take another test!

The packet says they start offering HESI A2 test in October 2006 at ECC. Minimum of 78% score needed on reading comprehension, mathematics, A&P, grammar, vocabulary/general knowledge.

I am sure the admission office at ECC has more info on it.

will replace the NET test. The HESI entrance is VERY different from the HESI exit, and requiring it for DCCCD is actually quite behind the times....most schools have required it for years! Don't sweat it too much....it's very basic, but the advantage is getting to do their tests before your last semester, so it's not completely foreign!

For those who are concerned about the second semester HESI....I took it at the end of my second semester too....In December of '03! If you've survived the semester testing, the liklihood is that you'll pass with flying colors!

we were told when finishing our 4th semester that the exit HESI was a predictor of how well one would do on the NCLEX. I found the exit HESI to be a breeze (scored a 98%), but thought the NCLEX was a B**^ch!

FYI....don't bother buying a HESI book....keep working out of your other NCLEX study guides....this is no joke, the girls who bought the HESI book and studied only from it, FAILED the HESI, a few of them both times!

You all are doing so well this semester....I so wish I'd had a support system like this when I was getting started!

I definitley DON'T limit myself to only one source to study from!!! :)

I had my first 12-hour clinical today. It was fun. The partner I had today and I did vital signs on our patients, then we reported off to the aide.

Next Thursday, we'll actually have a patient that we willl have chosen & did a mini-care plan on....overnight. HAHA

Jamie,

Thank you so much for this post. I was actually thinking about buying the HESI book - Yah! 1 less book to buy. I always enjoy your posts - so informative. It's always nice to hear insight from someone who has made it to the other side!

I thought they started doing 2nd semester hesi this year.

I am going to use the hesi book, an nclex review book, medspub and some others nclex books from NLC library. I don't know what book is THE best so I rather use different resources.

Well, I'm still up doing study guides for the third test. I can't believe the semester is half-way over already!

I hope everyone is doing well. I know we have had one to drop, but the official drop date hasn't come yet. I think it's Nov. 16th. Hopefully, everyone will be doing well enough to not need to drop.

I'm looking forward to Christmas at Disney World. I've been told that's their busiest time of year. (I'm not looking forward to the lines....summer wait times in the lines are bad enough!)

We're staying at a Disney resort, so we'll get an extra hour in the park! :D Maybe that will help out for the "Gotta ride-rides". lol

OK....enough dreaming of a 'so called break'.........because I know I'll be studying there and back.

Back to reality, and back to the study guides. ....Gotta make it through semester 1, before I need to worry about studying for semester 2. lol

Good luck on test 3.

Thanks!

We'll be gone for 2 weeks total, I think. I'm not sure of the exact dates.

How many exams have you had yet? I hope they're going well.
