I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
This is somewhat off topic, but I thought since I am considering the ASN program at El Centro as well as the BSN program at UTA I would like to know your thoughts are about re-taking a course to improve your prerequisite GPA?
OFF, OFF TOPIC:
I am currently working on an Excel spreadsheet that covers both the prerequisite and the courses that are required for the ASN program. So far it can calculate GPA on a per semester basis and give you an overall GPA for the entire program at that point. I am using a 4 point system to calculate the GPA (4 = A, 3 = B, etc.).
What would be a good place to set the decimal place? At the moment I have it set so that it looks like X.XX, though X.X looks better.
When I talked to the people at UTA earlier this year, they said that they don't consider retakes in your GPA unless you failed the class the first time. If you made a C and retook it for an A, you don't get any credit.
As for EC, try to get as close to possible to a 4.0, even if you have to retake. With one B on a 3 hour class, you MIGHT get in.
Set it to at least 2 spaces. (3.77 got in, 3.76 or 3.75 didn't qualify this time, although all are 3.8 on a rounded up scale.)
Retaking a class should only be done if you feel you have to. Some schools average the two grades, some only look at the most recent. (ECC only looks at the most recent grade.)
As far as getting with the person who made 98, Amy, I agree. Tell us allll!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
What do you mean, "Don't get any credit"? If you retake your courses, then you can't go to their school?
(Do you mean that they consider the first grade only?)

Well guys.....I made an 82 on the first test. I asked our instructor during lunch what the average was for her first test....she said "I will be happy if it is a 78!" Well...I guess I am average then. I also heard the average on the computer test was 80. Oh well.....I/we are having a difficult time in the clinical class. Our instructor seems to "fall" asleep when she is trying to teach us something. I hope all of this information falls into place when we get to the hospital. My head is spinning from the "care plan" instruction on Wednesday.

82 is good, and seems to be around the grade of everyone I've heard. So, that's good!
I've yet to hear that anyone made an A at NLC. Have you?
We wonder the same thing about clinical, so I guess it's normal. :)
I went and bought a Care Plan book today. It has the Diagnosis, then a "related to" section to pinpoint it down more, suggested outcomes (such as pain management, analgesics admin, etc), then it has Desired Outcome such as "The client will experience diminished......", Nursing Actions, Potential Complications, and Discharge teaching.
It is actually the Evolve's Nursing Care Planning Guides For Adults in Acute, Extended, and Home Care Settings, 6th ed. It was $47.95 at B&N. The book, the documentation class or the careplan class....hmmmmmmm, well looks like the book won. This 'Evolve' book should have been included in our books, IMO!
Oh well, I'm not sure if it's what we're suppose to get, but it looks good. LOL! (Actually, there was a girl at B&N's that said she just graduated from a BSN program in OK in May, and had just got a job in a local hospital. She helped me pick a book out. :) The one she had purchased wasn't there, but gave me pointers to help choose the best one available. (So whoever you were, if you see this, thanks!) haha
BTW, literally fall asleep?????????????????????????????????

I always tell everyone to take the careplan class during first or second semester. And buy a good careplan book too. The instructor, Ms. B. is really good.

Yeah, I really need to. I'm getting tired of being nickeled and dimed to death already, and it's only the end of the 4th week. This is worse than all the fund raisers my daughter brings home all school year. HAHAHA
I just took the LASSI exam. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID STUPID!!! Apparently, I dont have what it takes to be successful in college in 5 out of 10 catagories.
OK.....My 4.0 going into nursing school doesn't mean crap, nor does the 86 I just made out of an 80 computer average on the first test?
I'm a little ticked off right now....what a freaking waste of my time!
OK....'nuff venting.....LOL!

Mysterious,
Do you know who in your class made the 98? If so, get with that person(s) and ask them their study methods. Knowledge is power!
