Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

Mosby's Clinical Nursing is a great book for care plan writing! I used it when I went through my ADN program, used a newer version in my BS program and still use it in my MS program.

Thanks! I was afraid to buy too much (other than spening too much $) because of outdated information. (BTW, the Cultural Health Assessment book is Mosby's.) :D

I have a lab handbook here for you if you want it. It's Davis - might be a year or two old, but I bought another one that they required as part of my program so I don't need it. Lab info doesn't change as fast so it should still be current.

I think you have someone more important to sell/give it to, don't you? :lol2: Gauge14iv, you are such a big help around here. Thanks! It's good to be able to discuss things with people whose been there - around our area!

DreamBelieveSucceed, it's only because I am not at all interested in studying & getting tested on Government! :lol2: GEESH, I couldn't be a Government instructor......God bless 'em. :chuckle

Pilot program????? Are you talking about the 1-day programs, such as math class & Keys to Success? I wouldn't mind taking the math class, but the Keys to Success seems a little steep. I live out of county!!!! I have to discuss it with my hubby. His trying to start a new business & my going to school clash sometimes when it comes to money. :chuckle Anything that will help me succeed, I'd be for taking though.

well...he is in the process of making some decisions - something major changed since he applied so we will see. So just hold off buying one LOL

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

Great books Funnie.

Don't forget to buy the math book for nurses. The name should be on your math class paper. I also bought a care plan book from Ackley after Ms. B. suggested it at the care plan class. And I have to buy a new drug book from Davis that is published around June. The one I am using now is from the library. ;)

I am wondering how much the 2. semester book pack is...

Those books will be VERY helpful for you. What a great deal!! Especially that Fluids and Electrolytes one!!! I would also recommend buying a manual of diagnostic and laboratory tests. It will really help with writing the rationales on the nursing care plan. I know that's a ways off but I thought I would mention it while I was thinking about it. :lol2:

HI , I am accepted for Fall at El Centro and i wanted to ask you about a new option they give us. If we want, we can start allready in June and take "Basic Health Profession Skills, 1204". They say that if we do , we will get to start our clinicals allready in the second week of the official start in the fall. What do you think , would it be a good idea, to do this, and why do you think they might offer this now. What do you think could be the advantages. I would apreciate your input. thanks

Where did you get that information? (Maybe it's only ECC and not offered for NLC?)

I took that class at El Centro. You have to take it in order to get into any of the health programs (other than nursing). They teach you all the Basic skills kind of like they do CNAs. You also have a crash course in medical terminology.

It used to be offered as a two-parter.

How good and detailed the class is depends on your instructor.

I know this is a dry thread....but 'they'll' come around soon. :lol2:

I went to Half-Price Books today & picked up three books (only spent $19). :lol2:

I'm not sure whether or not they will help me in nursing school, but I figure they are good reading to get used to looking at nursing diagnosis/careplan 'language'. The books are Manual of Nursing Diagnosis, Wellness - Nursing Diagnosis for Health Promotion, and Cultural Health Assessment.

The cultural book tells you what to expect from different cultures....things like eye contact, touching, health care beliefs, death rites, and families roles in hospital care...very interesting!!!!

I wonFluid and Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy and Assessments Made Incredibly Easy from Ebay.....what a bargain!! (Thank you to whoever sold 'em cheap!) :chuckle They're 2nd edition, which isn't too old. I don't feel like paying for 3rd edition. lol

I have my reading material & math study material for the nursing math test, and as soon as I finish my GOVT class, I'm taking the summer off to get ready for nursing school! :lol2:

:balloons:

wow you are ahead of the game, how did you know what books to get?

have you not been offered the pilotprogramm. My friend dreambelieve, asked you about it and you did not seem familiar with that. Maybe its just El Centro.

I've read about careplan stuff on here, and just looked through the books to see which looked interesting. lol

As far as the program, I just looked through my packet, and I didn't see it anywhere. So, I guess it's only being offered at the ECC campus. Too bad....I'd be interested in doing it.
