I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
The externship is a good learning experience overall, I don't get that many skills opportunities as I had hoped. Although,I do learn how to scrub in and assist in C-sections, tubals and lady partsl deliveries. Something you will definitely need to know as an L&D nurse.I am not sure yet if I want to stay in L&D, I am leaning more towards postpartum.
About OB...
I have 7 shifts in our newborn nurseries. Today I was doing admissions and we were about to get a new one when the transporter said "sick baby" turned back, ran to our treatment room and called a code in a minute. I was assisting with another admission so I didn't see everything but I am still shaky a bit. The baby left for NNICU breathing on its own but it was still a scary experience for me.
OB is a wonderful place but no codes, please.

If you see this, I'll be at NLC for the SNA meeting tomorrow. Do you still need the syllabus?????
I'm going to be up at ECC tomorrow for a little bit. We have orientation at UTSW on monday (daytime), clincal tuesday (2-10p), and up at NLC wednesday. I would love to meet you somewhere! I'll also be at Brookhaven Saturday...lol. I'm just going to hit all the campuses. I live in Allen. Let me know when you'll be around and when it's convenient for you and I'll try and work around it. Let me know how much $$$ to bring. Thanks sooooo much!

I did well on the first test (98!), but it sure couldn't hurt! if you get this tonight, let me know how much $$ to bring. If not, I can bring a checkbook (I so rarely carry cash). I would really appreciate it. We have test review tomorrow, so I'll be coming to the meeting after that.
Thanks!!

Sorry I didn't make it to the SNA meeting. I was heading out the door taking the 10 y/o to my husband's job when my 16 y/o called from the nurse's office.
Now I have two at home sick.
I have clinical tonight, so I have to stay around here until my husband gets home.
..You seem to be ok without it, anyway!!
I know...I actually got a copy from someone of the respiratory section today. I'm a freak when it comes to grades...I know I'll have to give that up eventually, but I can't help it...lol
Hope everyone gets to feeling better! We are all just getting over the respiratory crud in our house.
Take Care,
Kathy
If I remember correctly, 3rd semester required lenient, in-class-with-everyone-watching check-offs for IV starting, NGT placement, and trach suction. I think that is it as far as lab check-offs. Assessment and IVBP are performed for a grade at the hospital by the end of the semester.
A PO, subQ, IM, and IVPB has to be with the instructor the first time at least, for 3rd and 4th.
An assessment must be completed in front of your 4th semester instructor as well, from what I understand, but not sure about grading, etc.
