North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!

Published

Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

I know how you feel, I can't get motivated to study either. But I probably will since I am only working 4 days in the next 2 weeks due to taking remaining vacation time before I leave my job in 2 weeks. I KNOW I am gonna be bored...probably by tomorrow and I'll read for something to do.

Also, where do we get pharm stuff for 1st semester? By stuff, I mean a list of what drugs we need to know, etc. Is there a "pharm packet" for 1st semester?

Amy

Hi Fun!!! Hope you are having a GREAT time in FL!!

I got Parkland too (but through ECC) as did MysteriousOne and SweetSil!

So what is everyone doing - studying Pharm cards for next semester, reading ahead??? Me - I can't sleep - but I can't get motivated to study either!!!

There are the 2nd semester pharm cards and a not official pharm review packet for each semester. Do you have those? Also, the clinical handbook or syllabus should have a drug list.

Katie

Katie,

Glad you asked. I do believe you sent me some stuff awhile back...names of files are "pharmstudyguide1", "pharmstudyguide2", "pharmstudyguidefinal", "level1pharmpack", "level2pharmpack", "1461drugcards". Somehow I was thinking all that was for semester 2. Is this all that I need for 1st semester as well?

I don't have the clinical handbook or syllabus yet. Hopefully the bookstore wil be open Tuesday and I can get them then.

1461 drug cards are for 2nd semester. And there should be level 1, 2, 3, and 4 review packets by a THR instructor. Do you have anything else?

Hello to all! I'm hoping to get in to NLC/ECC's program this fall. I just accepted a PCA position at Baylor, so I'm trying to balance my wants & needs for work & school. Got my Littmann today and I'm still test-driving shoes, but what about scrubs, lab coats, etc? What are the instructors at North Lake & El Centro requiring for ya'll? I know so many people have recommended cargo type bottoms but I'm afraid to invest in them if I have to turn around and buy something different when I get in to the program. What about shoes? Will they let us wear clogs or do they have to be sneaker-type shoes that enclose the entire foot, plus can we get any color or do they have to be white? ANY advice you have to offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I will be starting the NL program in Spring 2007. The NL / EC programs require you to buy uniforms for RN school. They have to be ordered because of embroidered logos and they require you to pick from their list of styles and colors. Lab coats are white. Tops are ceil blue and pants are black. Black shoes are required and no clogs are allowed. Information about uniforms will be provided to you once you get accepted into the program. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone.....Happy New Year's Day! :)

We just got home.....literally.

We made a 'small' stop in Biloxi, and stayed the night at the Beau Rivage. :D

Today, we took the 'scenic' route down the coastline of Mississippi. .....TERRIBLE!!!!! The aftermath of Katrina is still very much alive! It's so sad.

You can see signs that used to be from the restaurants...ones you can tell what they were, if totally missing the words, or ones with words.....but NO BUILDINGS LEFT! (Taco Bell, McDonald's, Olive Garden, Wendy's, Outback Steakhouse).

I took pics from the car with my cell phone, so I'm not sure how well you can see it. Most all the houses are completely gone.

My mom was completely sickened by it....she took that route many, many times to/from Florida visiting family in her life time.

(I've never been that way because there's a faster way now. However, seeing the devastation was so sad.)

There was an apartment building....about 10 stories maybe....completely gutted. On the outside of one of the floors, someone had spray painted, "Mom, we're ok."

It really put into perspective the loss those people are dealing with. :(

Anyway....I wish a prosperous New Year for all of those people....and all of us too. :)

Happy New Year!

I am happy you are back safely.

I think you can post some pics here at the premium site. I have seen reports on TV but I have never been to Mississippi and Florida.
