North Carolina Roll Call

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Hi I'm in Raleigh and taking pre-reqs at Wake Tech. Hopefully I'll start nursing school there next Fall.

Hello my name is Carol. I live in Charlotte and I am a single mom to three elementary aged daughters. I have a BS in Biology from 10 years ago and my goal is to get into the BSN program at UNCC in the spring. I have no nursing experience (unless you count raising my girls!) and I am really nervous about how I am going to do this. I don't know how I am going to go to school full time and work, let alone get benefits for myself and my kids (it scares me not to have medical insurance).....

If anyone has been in this situation I'd love to hear from you. I have about 20k in retirement that I can take out along with some money I've got put aside for tuition etc....I figure this with student loans and maybe working part time I can make it!!

Does anyone know how much an independent student (I am 34) can borrow through federal student loans per year?

Thanks! I am glad to be here!

Hello everyone, my name is Adrienne :)

Moving to Jacksonville in December. My soon-to-be husband is a Marine:redbeathe, so there you go.

I'm in CNA class right now, but hope to work on getting my ADN through Coastal Carolina Community while I'm out there, if at all possible. Also need to go ahead and request reciprocity, but I need to work here in Cali first!

Last time I was out there there seemed to be quite a market for CNAs, pages of ads in the paper. Anyone know if that's still the case?

Hi, my name is Pat. I am starting nursing school this fall and hoping to move to North Carolina once I am done.

I live in New Hampshire right now but after last winter my husband and I are longing for warmer weather and being able to be outside more of the year.

It was wonderful to see this thread of a roll call. Thanks a lot. I still have two years of school before we can head anywhwere, but looking around early is sure fun!
