Normal to wait this long for pre employment follow up

Published

Hi, I'm a new nursing assistant and have been look for work for a couple of months now. Last Thursday I had an interview at a rehabilitation center and accepted the position. I signed and had all my paper work process, took my id picture and received my employee handbook. The only thing left was my drug test, which i know i passed, I never tried drugs before and my background test. Today makes a week and i haven't heard anything yet. I'm wondering if they changed their mind. I'm also anxious because my license expire in December. I received it in September 2009 at 8months pregnant and have been looking since January 2010. I don't know if i should call or keep waiting.

Depends on the company sometimes it takes a while to get in

I'd call after 5 business days. I might take a while to get the results from drug testing, background check, and fingerprint check.

I hope you get it. Is there any chance, if you don't, that you could get a gig at an agency? You don't need many hours to retain your certification although I think it must be under the "direct" supervision of an LPN or RN.

I would apply for other jobs in the meantime. Just so you don't get stuffed.

I've tried with the agency , but they want experience and one that I'm registered with never has anything available every time i call. I want to put in more applications in the mean time, but what if i get lucky and get offered another position? I think i'll wait till the end of next week, maybe the fourth of July weekend threw things off.

I see a lot of private ads on Craiglist and on my univesity's job site -- more like home health aide stuff. Perhaps you can get some experience with them (although it may not count towards renewing your certification it will help with experience).

Also, maybe try stopping by your agency. Out of site is out of mind. I think it is dreadful that you can't get those few hours to retain your cert.

Good luck

Thanks for the the ideas:o

If you walk into the agency in person, they just might be moved to look at their list of open shifts right then and there and find something for you. I once went to the office and noticed several night shifts listed on the white board when they always told me on the phone there was no night shift available. Harder to tell you no to your face. Easy to say no over the phone.

I couldn't take it any more, and i called them today. The woman in HR told me that they recieved my drug test results and i'm cleared. She said someone should be calling me shortly. My Name was sent along with others for pending employment so maybe they're putting orientation together for us.

they called me, I start on monday.I'm so excited:lol2:
