This position I interviewed for was actually created for nursing students who have completed a minimum of 2 clinical semesters. My area has two new hospitals currently being built and expected to complete by the end of this year and the beginning of next year... so some hospitals are trying to get us into their hospitals before we graduate and have therefore created these "nurse tech" positions for us... it's basically a CNA/PCT position.
That's kind of the standard now a days unfortunately. A lot of hospitals do not even email to tell people they selected someone else even if they interviewed the person. It's a bit disheartening and disrespectful.
However, they may still not hire you. I had six months left before graduation and I was passed over for a nurse extern position because there was a student who applied right after the two clinical semesters so they would get a year of her versus six months of me.
That's unfortunate I tried calling again this morning before noon, no answer. I left a message but I won't expect a call back. It's very disheartening to be treated in this manner, especially after all of the time I took to prepare for the interview and the anticipation of wanting this specific position so badly.
However, what's meant to be, will be! I'll take it as a blessing in disguise :) Onwards and upwards!!

I'm a nursing student getting ready to graduate in December. I figured I would get a nurse tech position this summer in a hospital so that I could have SOMETHING to put on a resume once I get my license :) Miraculously, I found a position on a postpartum unit! L&D is something I would LOVE to do and I believe having any sort of experience on this unit would be invaluable to a new grad nurse. I scored an interview and was told that I should expect to hear something back by the end of the week. Friday ... no phone call, no email. Since it was Memorial day on Monday of this week, I thought maybe they would call on Tuesday... still nothing. So I sent an email on Wednesday morning to the HR guy (this was the only person I was given contact info for, and the nurse who interviewed me told me I should expect to hear from him on whether or not I got it). No response to my email.
Does anyone have any advice for me at this point?? This is a major hospital in my area... am I wrong for feeling a little disrespected?
