No more reading! Questions only!!

Published

I am so fed up with reading Saunders! Every time I have a question from a section I THOROUGHLY read and took notes on, I cannot recall a specific detail for that question! What's the point then?? I completely understand now why people say 20% reading and 80% questions...I think I'm going to stick to questions only now! Sorry for the vent....I'm just so frustrated....:banghead:

am reviewing for NCLEX as well . i graduated 2007 and past NLE in Phil 2007 as well . . got a jod not related to nursing. for 4 years. .. am reading saunders 4th edition and am having a hard time. please give some advises. thanks. apreciate it

That's so true! I'm using Saunders too and whenever I try to finish a chapter, I can only remember a few details. I am so stress out right now. I'll be taking my exam next week. :(

Same here, using saunders too. I failed my first boards so I hope I pass the second time.I had to give up my job so I can focus on practicing questions and passing my boards. Afterall without a license, I can't practice. I hope I made the right decision by quitting my job. Any advise from anyone who went through the same and passed the second time will be appreciated.

&..they said not to do over 100Qs a day, it'll fry the brain & content won't stick :o

I guess its true. i failed the first attempt maybe because i bombarded myself with 300 questions a day because i was obsessed with sticking with my schedule/plan but it didn't work out so now im doing 100-150 Q a day and read every rationale carefully! :)

I agree with everyone! I am also trying to study with saunders but the chapters are too long and the reading material is so dry and boring. I have not scheduled for my boards yet thank God, but am hoping to test no later than June 2011. I hope someone who already passed their boards will hear our cries lol and provide some advice on how to study and remember everything for our nclex exam.

You can not remember everything, I think the key to doing questions and reading rationales is it gives you an idea on how questions are worded and what to look for in obtaining the right answer. Generally if you look at the question you can discard 2 of the questions as definitely being wrong. Studying would be a suggestion if you are struggling with a particular speciality when answering questions and this would be where something like Saunders would come in

I definitely agree with this approach from trying to establish a routine over the last month. After doing both...just reading...and just doing questions....I've found the happy medium. Do questions and look up anything unfamiliar. You learn so much from just the rationales and if I need a bit more of an explanation, I use saunders...or google. :-)

Doing questions alone got me almost a 900 on HESI, so I'm hoping it's a good predictor!

Same here guys. IM using sunders 3rd edition. And to you, godsgrl444 , I just graduated 2010 and passed local boards in July2010 in the Philippines and Im plnning to take the nclex by june2011 coz i think I need to study everything. And which do u think guys is okay, ure gonna answer tons of questions and UNDERSTAND each words from the rationale or read an nclex book and answer after. coz now, im gonna start reading saunders at least 3 chapters a day and then answer questions after reading. I think it will take too much time for me to read and read and then answer everything. coz i have my own study plan so each day there would be 3-5 chpters that I need to tackle, i think that's too much, isnt it?!

sooo im planning to take kaplan courses for my questions by the end of this month. and i really need to work hard for this. :)

Sounds like it might be time to go ahead and tackle the enemy head-on.
