No Motivation To Study For NCLEX

I'm signed up to take the RN nclex on Jan 24. I have to pass it before I start my job in the OR on Feb 11. I just can't seem to get motivated to study. I guess it's because my school gave so many practice tests that practically assured I would pass the nclex that I can't get up the gumption to spend my last few weeks of vacation time studying. I will definately put in a bunch of hours the few days before the test, but I don't want to overdue it and waste my precious time. Am I bad?

you're not bad. may be a little burnt out...but aren't we all??? still, i would encourage you to study, even if it's 50 questions/day. imho, a little something is better than nothing. besides, the learning isn't over! this is only the beginning...

Well...don't look at me as a role model..lmao..but I studied ummm like 4 hours for NCLEX..

Do what you can and DONT overdo it. Focus on the big picture and not itty bitty details...NCLEX doesn't test you on itty bitty details. Know Maslow like he's your best friend.

Land64shark sit on your must comfortable couch. Close your eyes. Now imagine yourself doing NCLEX practice questions... Yes thats you!! On the 24th of January, you take the test and couple of days later you find out you PASSED!!!!!

Did that help? It was meant to hypnotise you into studying... hehe!!!

Study, study, study!!!! Go land 64, the sharks are coming for you...

I can't seem to get motivated either. Most of my classmates took NCLEX review courses, but with Christmas and no job right now until NCLEX, the money wasnt there for it. Plus it's an awful lot of money to learn strategies, which were pretty much drilled into our heads I thought in nursing school. I dont take my test until Feb 1st, so I still have time, and everyday I tell my self Im going to study for at least 2-3 hrs, I always find something else to do (or not do). If I dont pass, I lose my job that is waiting for me, so that should be motivation enough right....Nope, still not doing it.

I am a bit of a procrastinator and a crammer, so Im hoping if I really buckle down the week or so before I should be ok.

Im glad to know Im not the only one feeling this way.

Good Luck I hope we all pass the NCLEX

I'm scheduled to take NCLEX on Feb 7th & between caring for my son, home & starting a new job I just can't seem to stick to the plan of studying a few hours every night. I really don't seem pushed to do it, although it would mean the end of the job I just started. I do manage to at least do some questions every night, hoping that'll count for something. Hoping I pass, but then again I'm not putting a real effort into it.

I take the nclex feb 2. I started my new job the first week of January and have a bit of a commute so it's been hard to motivate myself to study as well. I didn't do any studying before I started my job because I wanted to enjoy the holiday since it'll be quite a while before I get a month off again. I've been doing about an hour a day of content review. I started out doing questions but found I was a bit rusty content wise. After reading things, I've found that it's all coming back! This weekend I will start doing practice questions on the CD again.

I'm taking it the 28th, and I've not started studying yet either. I feel like my school prepared me well. I got 99.99% on all but 2 of my HESI's (and the other 2 were 92% and 96%). My school made us do the Kaplan online program in order to graduate so I did a lot of questions then. I plan on reviewing some stuff soon but I've never been the person to study for hours a day, everyday.

EXACTLY!!! This is my exact story! Well, I'm down to my exam being just one week from today. I've planned everyday this week to study for hours and it just hasn't happened. I too have always procrastinated and crammed and it has served me well. The kids are off from school for the next 4 days so that doesn't bode well for my studying either. I will probably spend the entire day on Tuesday and Wednesday in a study room at the library. Hope that's enough.

Heck, I didn't study much either. Didn't have any motivation to study until one of my friends failed it. That lit the fire under my butt to study a bit! :)

I really only studied for about a week...a few hours a day (ok, maybe 1-2 hours a day...if that). The day before I went over EVERYTHING I could think of just to keep it fresh in my brain.

Im taking my NCLEX in 9 days! Ive been putting in up to 12 hours a day sometimes... I would feel so insecure if I didnt study and be on top of it, but Im a single mom and my entire life is riding on this. I need this part over so I can move on and start paying off all my debt from school. I have jumped hoops and bounds to conquer this so I am putting in 110%!!!! any other tips besides Maslow? I do know to remember nursing process and of course safety before machines and also as long as we know RACE for fire -those are soooo basic so I have dug deep and done every single sys pratically plus all my med dosages along w the entire delivery and all info. on the neonate. I dont knwo if I need to know vaccinations? I suck at these and I have studued a lot as far as standard precautions and if its airborne, droplet blah blah... I did a lot on meds... let me tell you 3 weeks every single day up to 12 hours a day, you can figure I may be on burn out soon... but again, my life depends on this... and I dont and cant retake it... good luck to all of you!!!

Heartjulz--you sound alot like I did before I took my boards. I

gave up alot to go to nursing school and my family had to give up even more. I didnt have the money to take a review course nor did I really want to. I couldnt imagine they would teach me anything I didnt already know. I had plenty of books, Mosby/Davis/Saunders/ATI. I did questions all day. It was almost comical at how obbsessed I was doing quesitons. Finaly about 5 days prior to boards I felt like I could not possibly retain any more. I have said it before, my boards were simple. I can only say that because I did so many questions. I look at it this way, you have one shot---now yes I know many people fail and re-take and pass. But I personally only wanted to do it once. I already had a job in place and worked at the hospital as a CNA. I could not bear the thought of having to walk in there and tell my new boss I would have to wait 90 days to try again.

I cant wait to read your post saying that you only took 75 questions and it was not as difficult as you thought.

Keep at it, keep at it till you cant take any more, then order a pizza and veg in front of a good movie and let your mind go numb. It is all there, you have it. You made it through school. You are doing the hard work it takes to pass, and you will pass.

I am a big beliver in positive thought, just keep thinking of the screen turning blue when you hit submit to #75.

I also had the vision of red line sloping above a black horizontal line. Just remember, Nclex test for minmum competence. If you are getting above 75% on your practice test your 15% above already.

YOU can do it, I am excited for you.
