NLN PAX

Published

Hi, Im studying for my NLN-PAX now, from that review guide book that everyone uses. Im just a bit confused because when i do practice exams, i keep coming across questions that were not in the book! most of the time i can sort of guess at them just based on knowledge from high school or whatever but im scared that this book wont properly prepare me for the exam. Does anyone else have the same issue?? i think it is mostly in the science area where this happens.

I have the study book too and I've talked to people in my class and others in the nursing class. Everyone says their tests are different. One girl told me she had more anatomy on her test in the science area than anything and another hardly had any. These were taken within a few months of each other. One girl told me her cousin took the test without ever even setting foot in a college biology class and made a 100/200 which is what is required for my school's nursing program.

Thats all you need to pass? wow i didnt realize it was only out of 200. So it shouldnt be that hard it seems? if you only need to get a 50%... (my school does not have a required passing grade and will even consider applicants with under 100).

I used the study guide and though the questions were different I was still prepared for the information on the test! I scored in the 96 percentile and had lots of physics questions and had never taken a physics class before. I think if you study the book you should be fine

The NLN-Pax review guide book doesnt help. I told my exam; I passed math and science but failed the english part. The vocabulary part is crazy difficult. U cannot find any words in this study guide. I passed my math and science section are based on what I learned in the class, not from the book. My science part 3/4 is physics. Good luck!

uh oh.... so how would you suggest i study for it???

I found the review book to be helpful. The question format was very similar to the actual test. I took my exam last week. My school looks at composite and verbal. I received a 138 composite and 86 verbal. I found the science questions resembling information I learned in a and p etc. Let me know if you have questions.

thanksssss im just worried cuz first of all i havent taken a and p and im reallllly bad at math when i cant use a calculator. Im just in general stressed out about this whole thing, i take my exam june26. and im nervous abou nursing school too, everyone tells me its so hard and im nervous i wont be able to make it thru. and i havent even gotten in yet!!!

What is the admission process at your school? What science courses have you taken? At my school you pretty much don't take the PAX until you are ready to petition. This would entail that a and p 1& 2, microbiology, biochemistry etc are completed. In my opinion taking those classes made the PAX questions easier for me. Let me know if you have ????????s.

wow okay i have NOT taken those classes... all i took in college is BIO 1 and Chem 1. (i will be taking BIO 2 in the summer, after my exam.) But the school told me that they generally look at applicants who have a test score of at least 100, although they would still consider an applicant with a lower score. The chem i just took definitely helps though. im most worried about math at this point. (and the physics is the hardest part of science for me.) Im not applying to such a fancy school- if i score a 100 (thats not a lot is it?) and they still have spots available, im probably in. any suggestions/tips are more than welcome ;)

Let us know how well you do :)

I used the book I think it helped a ton. It definitely helped me prepare for what was going to be on the test. My school required 96 I got 127. I did really good on the verbal and math. The science was a lil tricky it was mostly cell functions and biology based chem. There are 200 questions but 20 are experimental so really your score is out of 180. Timing myself while taking the test Def help me to use my tI me wisely. I had about 40 mins to spare over all while the other 2 used the entire 3 hours.
