Hello everybody. I was wondering what is the book you need to study for the exam? I know its the NLN PAX. but there seems to be many versions. for instance the mcgraw hill or mometrix media. Is it the study guides or the exam review books? Which ones are good?Should I get multiple ones? I take the exam in the fall. So i need to study study study and a.s.a.p. Any help, advice, and tips will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for asking so many questions but this is nervewracking. Oh one more question..how much do the books costs..and ISBN number? Thank you to anyone who responds. Have a nice day.

Hi! I'm using the NLN REVIEW GUIDE FOR RN PRE-entrance EXAM THIRD EDITION (ISBN: 978-0-7637-6270-4) this book also came with a cd-rom , and has many helpful pre-tests the book covers every subject very clearly along with the first pages telling you how to emotionalally prepare yourself(the nerves ahhh!) Im also studying vocabs with GRE-vocab cards because there is a vocab section. My school also makes you take the Nelson Denny test(only vocabs) SO THAT is the reason why i got them. I'm scheduled for June 29th to take the test. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! I have finally gotten over the fear of the test and now i'm just anxious, and ready to get this over with!=]

I bought one through Amazon. It was by the actual national league for nursing. It had a red cover and came with a cd with practice questions. I prepped with it for a few weeks. Ended up scoring a 149, which was in the 99th percentile. Didn't miss a single one on the math.Imho, the math section is where the biggest opportunity for improvement is. The math isn't hard, but you're forced to do all of your operations by hand. That book helps you improve your speed. The practice cd is also invaluable.

I used the National League for Nursing book too. I didn't have a CD with mine though. Honestly, I thought the vocab and reading questions were easier on the test than in the book. I got all of those right on the exam. I definitely think the book helps for math questions because the questions aren't hard but if you don't know how to do them the fastest way possible you will run out of time!!! Happened to me! As for the science questions, I thought they were pretty easy too but I have an advantage of having a bachelors degree in biology. BUT there were A LOT more physics questions than were in the practice book. Not sure if the questions are random so maybe you'll get more biology based then physics based questions, but just make sure you go over the physics stuff too. I'm sure you'll be fine if you're starting to study so early. All I did was two practice tests for each sections the week before the test and I got a composite score of 98 (out of 99). GOOD LUCK! :)
I am so sorry for my very late response. But thank you guys so much for responding back. Im going to get that book from Amazon. I have two months to study. I've been studying to get my driver's permit..yea very late in the game. Well again thank you so much to everybody who has responded back. I really hope I pass.
I'm sure you'll do great, just study study study! Good luck! I take my test tomorrow, I'll let ya know how that goes

Good luck to you. Please let me know what they will ask heavily. Thank you.
hello!
well i took the test and did not pass , and let me tell ya i took it hard....i had mentally/emotionally prepared in case i did not pass, but when i got the paperwork i cried the whole way home(we get results right away). a whole bunch of emotions like a tornado went through me... anyhow enough about me, let me tell you about the test. it's on the computer. it took me 4.5 hrs to complete everything. my school requires the pax test and the nelson denny reading comprehension test. so it could be shorter time for you if your school does not require the nelson denny test. it's reading/comprehension test first(1 hr) , then math(1 hr) and then science(1 hr). after taking the test i can not stress this enough-watch your time because it goes so quick!!! i kept running out of time that was my problem. especially in the math part, it is extremely important to do your work on the paper as fast as possible, and also learning any available shortcuts if possible! the science part was crazy, there was physics, chemistry, and some anatomy questions. i felt that there was a lot of physics and chemistry with formulas and mendel theory, newton's law, or charles darwin questions... in other words, grab the study book and study it all.... and also i would suggest grabbing the "physics for dummy book", to get more familiarized with physics. math had everything from geometry, perimeters, area, equivalent equations, everything that algebra, and only a few geometry questions(3- ong word problems) my school requires a 97 percentile rank and i scored a 92 best of luck to you!

That was a pretty close score though..only five points away! When are you able to take it again?
I have to wait 8 weeks to retake it again.

Hi,
How did you do on the exam? Was it the same when you retake it? I scored 106 on my first try, but the school I am applying takes the highest scores, so I am taking it again.
