NJCU ABSN 2015

Published

The application for NJCU is open for both Wall and Jersey City! I thought I would make a thread for this years round of applicants. We can share our experience with NursingCAS and the HESI.

Hope y'all find this!

Yup! Make sure you put in NJCU's Dept ID: 197861 when registering, or else the scores won't be sent to them.

Thanks AlexandraT!

Hello all. I am interested in applying to the Jersey city campus for September 2015 start date. I'm really worried about my prereqs. My undergrad gpa is a 3.46 so I guess that can be rounded up to a 3.5 and my prereqs are 2.66 or 2.7 if they round up. I got 3 Bs and one C+ and a C. I'm not sure if I have a chance. Should I even bother?? I did not take my Hesi yet because I did not start the application yet which I will be starting asap as well as starting to study for the HESI. You guys think with a strong Hesi score (85 and up) I have a good chance getting in? I can be accepted into LIU absn program the issue is I don't have the time to take chem 2 nor the money. That's my last resort right now.

Be confident, ChrisB718. You can try. Good luck to you! :))

I am reapplying to Wall this year (wait listed to Jersey City last year).

AlexandraT I am scheduled to take the HESI on January 9th. I took it last year and it not that bad, but some people have difficulty depending how you are on test taking. There is a study guide you can buy from the people who make the HESI and the questions are very similar to those on the actual test.

ChrisB718 I think everyone has a good shot that this program. I was waitlisted last year and my ugrad gpa is a 3.0 and my prerequisites gpa is a 3.34. You never know they look at the whole application. Also, my HESI score was a 90, hoping to do better this time around.

Johndabaker, is the HESI more on Math, Biology and Chemistry or is it just equal on the these subjects you will be tested? Thank you.

NJCU actually doesn't test for chemistry!! if I remember correctly A&P and Bio have more questions than the reading/grammar and math sections. johndabaker, correct me if I'm wrong!!!

I take that back, sorry guys I had it mixed up.

Math: 50-item exam. Focuses on math skills needed for health care fields, including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures, and general math facts that are useful, for example, when calculating drug dosages and solutions.

Reading Comprehension: 47-item exam. Reading scenarios that are health related. Provides reading scenarios in order to measure reading comprehension, including: identifying the main idea, finding meaning of words in context, passage comprehension, making logical inferences, etc. The reading scenarios pop up on the screen. Students can move around the windows to see the entire scenario.

Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 50-item exam. Contains basic vocabulary that is often used in health care fields. Recommended Time: 50 minutes.

Grammar: 50-item exam. Contains basic grammar, including: parts of speech, important terms and their uses in grammar, and commonly occurring grammatical errors.

Anatomy and Physiology (A&P): 25-item exam. Depending on whether or not A&P is a pre-requisite for your curriculum, you may or may not have students complete this quick assessment of A&P knowledge. Provides coverage of general terminology and anatomical structures and systems.

Biology: 25-item exam. Depending on whether or not Biology is a pre-requisite for your curriculum, you may or may not have students complete this quick assessment of Biology knowledge. Covers biology basics, water, biological molecules, metabolism, cells, cellular respiration, and photosynthesis.

Thank you Johndabaker I appreciate it , I know we can only take it once so I ! Taking it end of January since I had two fall prerequisites I want the month of jan to review I bought a book it's paper back and pretty thin but saw last year a few people had bought it . And tinemarie thank you for all info on the exam !! Good luck on the 9th :) !!!! .. I have a question for everyone ... I have to submit my classes and grades. Annually but I als need to go to my undergrad college and have them actually mail the transcript to nuring cas as well right ?! And also I am on the same page with the chemistry thing .. Njcu does not test on chem or physics I hope this is correct lol !

hey guys! does anyone know how much the program cost?

Hey Michelle A!

I believe with uniforms/books/supplies etc, the cost should fall somewhere within low to mid $30s. Much more reasonable than the other ABSN programs in the area.

thank you tinemarie!

Took the HESI today and just submitted my payment!:)

now waiting on my app to get verified
