What causes night time cough?

Why do you ask? Are you a nursing student, or someone with a cough who's looking for a diagnosis? If you are the former, you need to do your own homework, or at least demonstrate you have done some of your own thinking on the matter. If you are the latter, we can't help you, as that would be against our TOS.

There is no single answer. A newborn will be different than an 80 year old who smoked unfiltered cigarettes for 65 years or a patient with lung cancer or a visitor that arrived after a 12 hour flight from a country where TB is rampant. Or the 18 year old who talks a lot and just inhaled a fly.

so now we know the answer is tuberculosis, or a cold, or the flu, or smoker's cough, or a fly in the lung lol! wouldn't it be great to be able to diagnose everyone instantly by a single symptom? that's the superpower I want to have!

I vote for the fly. Happens to me all the time. I hate it.
