NGCSU ASN Program Location Revealed at LAST!!- North Metro College

Published

The location for NGCSU ASN program is North Metro College in Acworth. I just got the information in the mail today.

Thank Goodness! Now I can finally proceed with my plans.

No I have not been accepted yet...I have not applied. I will apply for next fall. So the course of study outline on NGCSU website is pretty much if you have noe prereqs already done and shows you how to take them so that you get them all in 2 years with the nursing classes?

I was wondering about grades...I have a 3.1 overall from another degree with my prereqs required for nursing being around 3.4. Should I try to retake some of my B classes to make some A's or is this good enough to get in?

Thanks

Cass

It is two years without the core classes for your ADN - 4 semesters total, not including summers. Most have completed core classes before they start the program, although some people start the program and still have a few core classes to take. Have you been accepted yet? If not, good luck to you. I've heard it is a great program and I'm looking forward to starting in the fall.

Cass,

Your GPA is similiar to mine and I got in. I have not finished all my prereqs so I am proof to go ahead and apply. I have A&P II and Micro still left to do. Also, get the study guide for the TEAS test and study, it did help me with my score.

Jules

Great! Thanks for the advice. I am taking A and P I at Gwinett Tech this fall so maybe I will get in the first time around...Did you get your TEAS guide at like Barnes and Noble?

You have to order the study guide from the company that gives the test. Here is the link, Good Luck!!!

I'm also going to NGCSU at North Metro, and was wondering if anyone has purchased their nursing shoes, yet. If so, what brand did you buy, and where did you purchase them? I assume you can purchase them at the uniform store in Gainesville -- but which brand is the best?

Also, I read that stethescopes are being sold at "I Can" Camp by second year students in August -- which brand/model is the best one to buy?

Also, can anyone verify that our clinicals will be at Kennestone or Cobb General? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, but I was just curious...

Btw, I am also in my mid-thirties, with another bachelor's degree in business from Ga State. It's wonderful to hear that I'll have mostly 'peers' around my same age at North Metro!!! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! :chuckle I think I'm living proof that anything is possible. :rotfl:

I am going to the uniform shop on Friday. I think you can get a deal when you buy the whole set there. I do not know what brand of shoes to get. I e-mailed Linda Stover today to ask which Hospital we will be doing clinic but I have not heard back yet.

Also found out that text book list should be at the bookstore by Friday or Monday.

I am also an old dog but in my forties. We can do it. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Looks like we're going to be the 30 or 40 something class of 2007. I'm in my mid 30s too and happy to know I will be among peers. I have a BBA degree in Computer Info Systems. Spoke to NGCSU Nusing Dept today, Linda said we are required to attend both Advisement and Orientation at the Dahlonega campus on 8-15 and 8-17 respectively. I'm really not looking forward to making that long drive both days but she said that's the only way I will be advised. As for the Shoes and uniform, I live in Gwinnett do you know where I find those at reasonable prices?. I will be moving over ot the Cobb area sometime August.

ReidMe, I don't know about a uniform store in Gwinnett -- but I feel sure that there is one close to you, somewhere, up I85. I do think there is one in Kennesaw, but that doesn't help you out much, right now. (Sorry!)

I am also not looking forward to driving all the way to Dahlonega both days in August, but oh well. It's just two days.

It's a very small price to pay for getting in this Fall -- I'm so excited!!!

Here's to the "Thirty-something (+\-) Class of 2007!"

Woooo-hooooo!!! :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

Hi,

I'm starting NGCSU this fall too, but at the Gainesville campus. I've already gone to the Uniform Store and purchased my uniforms. I live in Cumming, so it isn't that far from my house. They give you a 15% discount, which was really nice. It might not be that hard to get to from Gwinnett Cty, if you go up I-85, then I-985. The ladies there are very nice and know exactly what we need. Good luck to you guys. I'm sure I'll see you at the I Can camp!

P.S. I forgot to mention, the Uniform Store is in Gainesville. Also, they do have a wide variety of shoes for you to try on. I tried on a bunch before I settled on a pair of Nursemates. I would love to purchase the Danskos (sp?), but they were $100. Maybe next year, or when I start nursing. I also heard from Eagle Girl (who has just completed her first year at NGCSU) that she has the Littman SEII (i think), but she tried her instructors Littman Master Cardiology and could not believe the difference! I'm asking for one for my birthday. I bought a $20 at the Uniform Store and can hear ok with it - but not as clear as I'd like to. There are several threads about the best stethescope and shoes to buy. Take that advice and add it to your own experience when try them out, especially the shoes. :)

Hey everyone!! I'm very excited for all of you getting started. I just wanted to let you know that unfortunately, we (2nd year students) are not selling stethoscopes, etc. at I Can Camp this year. For some reason, they decided to schedule 1st and 2nd year students to attend orientation on different days, so we have our first day of class the day you guys start I Can Camp. I did buy a Littman Master Cardiology and I have used it this summer at my externship. I do really love it, but it is a large investment!!! I really don't know what the "best" nursing shoes are, but I have Nursemates (Emma style) and I really like them. They feel great even after 12 hour shifts!

Oh! and regarding the question about the two year thing - Yes, they have an example of the curriculum taking only two years on the NGCSU website, and it is possible - BUT because so many people are applying now, you almost have to have completed most of your pre-requisites in order to get in. But I think that is pretty common with all nursing programs. :)

:)

Oh, I almost forgot - I got my school uniforms at the Uniform Corner in Roswell. It's in the Fiesta Shopping Center on Hwy 9 (aka Alpharetta Hwy). That might be closer than Gainesville for some. They also give a student discount if you ask!!

Hi everyone! I was reading the threads and wanted to say that there is a shop in Gwinnett Mall and one in Lawrenceville. I thought that might help! I got mine online and at the uniform shop at the mall.
