Where to take my core classes ?
gainesville college does offer a&pi & a&pii, and microbiology, all of which you need for almost any nursing program. i agree with a previous poster who said to apply to all the nursing programs you can - keep your options open! also, all programs say you have to have at least a "c" in your sciences, but try to get a's, it increases your chances for admissions! keep your gpa as high as you can. i'm at north georgia and they have a great program. i've heard that gpc's is a tough program and they have a low graduation rate. maybe since their reputation is bad, they will improve their program, but i have two students in my class that went there and dropped out and came to our program. as far as classes you need, most programs tell you what classes they require for graduation from their program. start with your english, math, psychology and science classes. don't overload yourself - you need good grades to get into nursing school, the competition is stiff! good luck to you and if i can answer any additional questions, just let me know. lisa

Questions about new grad opportunities
NurseKittyAtlanta, I am currently a nursing student and I'm working as an nurse extern in the ER at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, so i don't know much about the 3 hospitals you mentioned, other than Northside. Northside hires nurses through their main hospital for all locations. You can go online and apply, but I would try calling, then going down there in person. I tried to apply for their nurse extern program, but I didn't hear back from the recruiter. They did come to our college and talked to the graduating class about jobs, so I know they are hiring. As I'm sure all the hospitals are. One of the graduates from our school just got a job there in their OB department. She also posts on here, so she would be a good source of information for you (EagleGirl06). One of our satellite campuses uses Kennestone hospital for clinicals, and she didn't care for it, but that is her opinion that I am restating, since I know nothing of this hospital. My best advice would be for you to visit each and meet with a recruiter. If you are want to work OB, Northside's main campus is the place to be. they deliver more babies than any hospital in Atlanta. I don't know if this is much help. Maybe someone with more information will respond soon. And - Welcome to Atlanta! Lisa

Gpc
Gansu, Talk to EagleGirl06!! She has been a great support system to both me and Juli (your friend from GPC - Dunwoody). PM her, call her, I promise you, you won't regret it! Please talk to her. EagleGirl06, I'm so glad to hear you are doing the BSN program! I hope you will continue to mentor me, and my classmates who adopted you as their mentor, in the coming year. Good luck on your interviews This week! Lisa

NGCSU Cumming\Alpharetta Location to be Revealed This Week
I'm sorry, but I don't know what hospitals they will use for the lanier tech campus, since it is new. Maybe the dept. secretary could tell you. (Ann Reid or Linda Stover). As for changing campuses, I don't think they will let you change. I know of a couple of girls that were at Dahlonega and wanted Gainesville, and they wouldn't let them switch until we had someone drop out, then they let one of them switch. That is something else the department secretaries may can answer. Sorry I couldn't be more help, Lisa

NGCSU Cumming\Alpharetta Location to be Revealed This Week
Hmm - well our instructor told us Friday that the new first year students starting in Aug will be at the Forsyth satellite campus. I am at the Gainesville Satellite campus. We had our finals on Wednesday and we asked her. I have a friend who just finished up 1st year at Acworth, and they will stay at Acworth for 2nd year, but the new students and the first year instructors will be at the Forsyth satellite campus. And this is for the ADN progam. I also heard that they are taking 140 students in the Fall, rather than 100 like they have in past years. So this is good news for those of you wanting to transfer in. We had two students in our class that transferred in from GPC. They hated it there. . .

NGCSU Cumming\Alpharetta Location to be Revealed This Week
I could be wrong, but I think the deadline for Fall 2006 has passed. I know they've already sent out letters to those they accepted. You can check it out on their website. http://www.ngcsu.edu

NGCSU Cumming\Alpharetta Location to be Revealed This Week
Hi again. Yes, I am currently a student at NGCSU. I just finished my 1st year and will go into my second, and last year, in August. It is a great program. I've heard about the GPC program, so I know it must be tough on you. Hopefully, you will work it out and finish there. I know changing schools at this point would be tough. If not, I know you would love North Georgia. Good luck to you!!

NGCSU Cumming\Alpharetta Location to be Revealed This Week
Actually, they aren't going to be located in North Metro next year. The students who are in first year will finish their last two semesters at the North Metro Campus in Acworth, but the incoming class will be at the North Alpharetta/Forsyth Campus, located at Lanier Tech in South Forsyth County. Have you been accepted yet? If not, and you plan to attend the next year, you may be at the Alpharetta/Forsyth campus, which wouldn't be far for you either, if you live in Roswell.

Need information
I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to that question. Lanier Tech/Forsyth campus is a new location. The previous class was located in Acworth and went to Kennestone/Wellstar. I'm not sure which hospital they will use for clinicals. But I'm pretty sure they do not take where you live into account. Sorry, I'm not much help on this one.

NBlessone, GCSU does have a service cancellable loan you can apply for. You can go to their website and look on the Financial Aid page for directions. Get it in as early as you can for consideration. As for OB clinicals, you will do seven weeks of OB clinicals at the hospital, and the hours are normally 6:30am until 2:30pm on both Monday and Friday. On Wednesday you will have Peds and OB lecture at either 8 - 12 for the entire semester. Then, your last semester you will have Med/Surg and Psych lecture from 1 - 5 on Wednesday's for the entire semester. We did not get to pick which rotation we took for Fall semester and Spring semester. I hope this makes sense to you - it can be a bit confusing. I have Med/Surg and Psych rotation this Fall. I will not know which clinical I will do first until classes start. Lisa

Hi again Gansu, I have a classmate and study partner that lives in the Buford/Suwanee area. It isn't a bad drive at all. She said it takes her about 20 mins to get to the college and the hospital (Northeast Georgia Medical). I look forward to meeting you! The 2nd year students are around on Wednesday's, if you have lab that day, so we'll pop our heads in and say hello. I have some great class mates and we all plan on being mentors, just as Eagle Girl 06 was my mentor. She was awesome, and we want to be the same! The Gainesville students tend to be a close knit group. I've made some friends that I am sure I will have for life! Your study partner will definitely become a additional family member! Our class ranges in age from 20 to 50ish, with the medium age being mid-30's. And we all get along great. I'm sure your class will be similar. You'll also get to meet Dahlonega students when clinicals start. My clinical group only had 3 members from my lab group, so they really try to get us all aquainted. Also, joining GANS is a good way to get to know 2nd year students. The meetings are held on the Gainesville Campus on Wednesday's. Well, it is time for me to get to bed - I have class in the morning. Once again, don't hesitate to ask anything that comes to mind. If you PM me, I will give you my email address. Take care and good luck to you all!! Lisa

Hi Sweet Tooth, I do love our program, especially our instructors and the students. All of your lectures, and your labs for the first 6 weeks of 1st and 2nd semester of your 1st year will be at the Gainesville Campus. I don't think we are in the Science Bldg. We are in the Dunlap Bldg. (I'm pretty sure that is the name of it). Then, clinicals start and you are only at the Gainesville campus on Monday's. Clinicals are on Wednesdays your first year and will be at either Lanier Park or the NE Georgia Med. Ctr. main campus. You do have to go to Dahlonega a few times. Mainly for registration your first semester, then orientation at the beginning of each semester. It isn't a bad drive, but I guess that is relative to where you are coming from. Gainesville campus has about 20 students. We had two people drop out after the first test after they decided it wasn't the best time in their life to commit to the program. It is tough, there is a lot of reading to do on your own. You have to be a self-motivated student, meaning you get lecture, but much of your learning comes from reading the assigned chapters and studying on your own, or in a group, which is what I like to do. Our instructors are very supportive and encouraging and like to see you succeed. Please just ask if you have any more questions. You can post here or PM me. Lisa

Hi Blessone and Sweet Tooth, Congratulations to you both. As EagleGirl just posted, you will love NGCSU. Just like her, I am a Gainesville Campus student. It is a great program. As for being able to do it with a family, I am a "mature" student, at age 42, and have a teenager, and have done just fine. There are other students in my class who have children much younger, and they are doing fine too. But, they depend on a good support system, such as parents or a husband, to help them out. The program requires a lot of studying. As long as you stay on top of studying and your assignments, you will do fine. As for completing the ASN program sooner, it isn't possible. NGCSU does their ASN program in 4 semesters, Fall, Spring then Fall and Spring again. Once you sit for your RN Boards, you can apply to the BSN program. You can do it in 3 or 4 semesters, depending on what you want to do. I hear it is mostly online and is able to be completed while working. Please let me know if you have more questions. EagleGirl was my mentor, and she was awesome! I want to help out anyone I can, just as she did me and my friends! (thanks again EagleGirl and congratulations on graduating soon! I'll be there!) Lisa
