ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... :D ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ... :(

but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).

anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?

Yay! Hi Ana :D

Well, I was waitlisted for the 2010 class and since they all just started orientation and classes this week, it is safe to say I am no longer in the running so I am pursuing another application for 2011. Never give up! I also believe I will have a stronger application this time around with new recommendations, longer hospital volunteer service hours than last year and all my prereqs completed nicely.

Good luck everyone! :clown:

QUESTION: Is it possible to apply to BOTH the accelerated and the basic BSN @ Stony Brook with one application, or must I submit two different applications? I know others have done it but not sure how they went about doing it.

I am going to apply for Stony's Accelerated Nursing summer 2011!! I still haven't start my essay yet... i only got an outline of it... im really worried that I can't get in... cuz i still have microbio in the fall and my prereqs grades are not that decent... well hopefully i can get some good recommendations

I think you need two separate applications... they said it somewhere... and I swear I saw it somewhere online but I can't find it anymore lol But if anything you should just call and ask, and if you do pleaseee let mee know too!! cuz i think im gonna apply for 2-yr also!! =]

What other schools are you looking into? And when are applications due?

I have already been accepted to U in Philadelphia and even though I would be perfectly happy there, if I can get in somewhere with cheaper tuition I would seriously consider it. Hence my application to Stony Brook (at which ironically I would be considered a non-resident since I am in FL but even as a non-resident tuition is cheaper than a private school). In addition, I am looking at UCF and UNF here in FL (where I CAN get resident tuition) and Beth Israel (an ADN program) in NYC. I am wanting to go back to the northeast because that is where I am originally from, it is where my family still lives and and I wish to return. But if I can earn a place in a FL school I am willing to stay here another year and taken home a BSN.

Stony Brook's app is due Nov 1, I assume it's same as last year. Not a lot of time to get things together considering they don't open the application until late Aug/early Sept. My other ABSN apps are due Jan 15 and the ADN one is due Mar 1 me thinks.

AHHHHHH the application for Stony Brook ABSN is available and im stressed on my resume and essay... theres no options for "Intended Term of Entry" yet... so im like freakin out... >

In terms of recommendations, how is it gonna work out if im applying for different programs at the same school? Aren't they just gonna be reading the same thing? (cuz i assume bosses and professors won't write two different recommendations...)

anyone on the same boat?

Oh I just started my application thing online and YES you need two different ID and password if you're applying to different programs in the school of Nursing. I saw it on the "apply youself" website :nurse:

THANKS for the heads up on the dual application thing. I am inclined to just apply to the ABSN only if I will have to ask my references to submit their recommendations twice to SB. Bad enough I am asking them to write another one for another school, trying to avoid overload :D

Now I am wondering if they need us to send two different sets of transcripts, one for each program ...

I did not even know that the app was out now, so thanks for heads up on that too.

Pretty much finished most of my online application (was easy considering I had a copy of last year's to copy/paste and update accordingly) but I am still working on my essay which I just started this weekend. I want to write a brand new one, not have any vestiges of the old one (not that it wasn't good, I don't want to turn around and give the same one back to them, that would not be right). Transcripts are already on the way and tomorrow will visit with my recommenders so I can formally enter their email addresses into the application. Things are rolling! :)
