Hi dani606, I just started my first semester here and everything is okay. Right now I'm taking some pre-req classes and a Nursing course. The thing I like about the school is they allow you to take some Nursing course while you take the pre-req's and you don't have to apply after you finish the pre-req's you just start clinicals that following semester. You can PM me and I'll elaborate on the pro's and con's.

I just got accepted into St. Vincent's nursing program! I've been googling for more information on the nursing program there, but there isn't much. i read from your other posts that you go there and i wanted to know if you can tell me more about the school.

i live in NJ, and I am graduating in college this year. i got into an accelerated 16 mth nursing program in IL but it is too far away and I'd rather stay in this area so im thinking about attending st. vincent.

i'm most curious about the clinical sites. which hospitals do students do clinicals at? do they have any that are in manhattan? i will be commuting from home. i live in jersey city, which is about 15 mins away from downtown manhattan.

how big are the classes? is there a good gym on campus? do u know anything about the nclex pass rates? any information about the school would be appreciated. thank you so much!

Will you be attending school at the midtown Manhattan site? if so the classes are small (10-25) students and when you began clinicals there will only be about 30 people in your clinical group and they split that into 2 groups. There really isn't much of a campus downtown because the classes are at St. Vincents Midtown Hospital (formerly St. Claires). However there is a Bally's near by. I don't know the exact pass rate for the Nclex, but I believe it's high. If you need the midtown directors e-mail address or phone number I can give it to you just PM me. I would be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

How long did it take for you to get an acceptance letter once you applied?

I was just notified, this week, that my transcripts have gone to the Nursing Dept for review of my transcripts/credit evaluation. So, I wanted to know how long after that would I get a letter from the school? I spoke to the Director of Admission and he told me based on his review of my file, that he requested that I should be considered for acceptance to the Nursing Program, but he told me that it all depends on the Nursing Dept, so I was curious as what happened with you.

it took about 2 months for them to reply. by the way, the program is 3 years in length even after u've finished your prerequisites. i called up the director and he said we have to wait 1 year before starting clinicals. i was kinda disappointed to hear about this. :o im not sure if i still want to go to mt. st. vincent. :stone

Just was curious to know about the school, although I got soon of the info you provided to Moonberry, I had some questions of my own. I also wanted to let you know that, before I became a registered member to allnurses.com the info that you provided to other members of this forum helped me in making a descision on nursing school. As a Second Degree student rom Pace Univ, Psyc major student. This year I've been rejected by Stony Brook and The College of New Rochelle. Last year I was accepted to Wagner College, accelerated nursing prog, but postponed my acceptance,due to other issues in my life. Before reading your postings, I was just focused on atteding an accelerated program, but I knew that this would not be convenient for me, but b/c I knew of other people that were applying to accelerated programs I felt that was the best for me at the time. Everyone I know were rushing to complete the program, as fast as they could, so I wanted to do the some. To complete an accelerated program I was going to take some time off work, but later reading your responses to other members noticed that going to Nursing school for 3 years and taking my time to complete it, is the best choice that I could ever make. You encouraged me. I currently work part-time, so I am getting ready for Nursing school. Anyways, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Questions about CMSV:

How is the program, is it really hard ?

I remembr reading a question you asked a member who was a graduate of CMSV and this member stated that the program was hard and many student dropped out during clinicals. I know you have not started your clincal classes yet, but how are your other classes?

How is the Chemistry class and Development Psyc course. all I have to take is the second half of these classes, If I get accepted. Hopefully!!!!!!!

How supportive are the professors of the program, in making sure that students succeed in the program?

How are faculity members?

I am debating on attending Pace university as well, being that I am a graduate and have all of the core classes, but I don't what to go to Westshester everyday. I live in Queens, so want something closer to home.

From what I understood, It takes you two years with the prereq's and three years without. I spoke to the School of Nursing Director in the Mid-town office and that is what she told me. However, if you are missing some of their prereq's you'll have to take them during the Fall and Spring semesters and yes, you are right, clinicals for students starting this Fall will start next year September. But, think of it like this, what schools are you going to find acceptance to at these time of the year, if you have not yet applied to the school. If you have applied to schools and waiting for replies do so, but have CMSV as a last alternative, b/c with alot of the programs clincials starts next year, if you have not yet applied to their program. So think about it. Unless if you already have all of CMSV prereq's, then it's best to look else where, b/c it would be a waste of time.

Question:

Is it best, in your opinion to attend a school that starts clinicals right away, especially for us Second Degree students?

Am having this problem b/c I am a Pace Graduate and would like to resume studies with them as a nursing major, it will take me three years also, but I'll be starting clincals in September, unlike CMSV.

The science classes are not so bad as long as you keep up. I have heard that clinicals are a killer and you really have to put a lot of time into studying for the test. There is a test every 2 weeks once you start clinicals.

How is the Chemistry class and Development Psyc course. all I have to take is the second half of these classes? Psych is a piece of cake and Chem 2 (well like I said don't fall behind in lecture, the lab is easy if you have a certain professor :) )

How supportive are the professors of the program, in making sure that students succeed in the program? Professors are willing to help the students as much as possible. Because of the 15:1 ratio it's easier for them to help each student.

How are faculity members? Some are nice and you will always have a shady character or two wherever you go.

So what's your opinion Pace or CMSV? It all depends...location is a big factor in why I choose CMSV. Clinicals are at St. Vincent's Hospital (12th st) and the classes are held on West 52nd Street. The only time you have to go to Riverdale is for Chem lab and that's on Saturdays. The choice is yours. Regardless of which program you pick I'm sure you'll do great.

My name is Merry and I will be joining you at CMSV. I got my acceptance letter in the mail this weekend. The info you provided is very helpful. If you don't mind, do you know of any good professors for CHEM I & II. I will be registering for Chem I in the Fall and CHEM II in the Spring. And also, if you don't mind, professors for NUR 103, Pathophysiology, Pharmphysiology and also NUR 250.

You can also take Nursing classes while you take pre-req's. They will allow you to take Intro to Nursing, Health Promotion, and Nursing Research and Theory. There is this one professor that teaches all of those courses and she is a hardball, but the word is that she was suppose to retire after the Spring 05 semester. I took 2 out of the 3 courses while taking my pre-req's and all you need is time management and a good study partner.
