  1. HI hushpupgrl, Hoboken is a really nice area with lots of new condos and restaurants. The salary in NYC starts around 65,000+ so if your rent is about 1500, i think it is still affordable. If you live in hoboken and close by the Path trains, then you probably don't need to worry about getting a car so that will also save you some money.
  2. Right! I had an interview with New York Downtown and Communication Workers of America is what's representing them. I applied for the Labor and Delivery unit and got an offer from them. I'm trying to decide if I should take the job at NYDown or start off in a Med-surg unit at a bigger hospital and wait to be transferred to L&D...
  3. I just interviewed with a hospital today who's union is Communication Workers of America. Does anyone know how this compares with the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)? Any input greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!!!! :)
  4. Hi, i'm not sure if NYM hires without a license. you will have to contact HR there. i know that they are very quick in responding applications though. I got a call from the HR the morning after i sent them my resume. They have a training session in June if you are interested. go to their website and apply because they're already interviewing for the June group. good luck!
  5. Thank you so much for the info! I live a couple of minutes away from Jersey City Med. It'd be nice if I can just work there!! The crime rate is very high in JC which might be the reason why it felt "creepy." :)
  6. I am graduating in December and starting to get a little nervous about working. Currently I am studying in Illinois... but I am originally from Jersey City. I was just wondering if any of you have any insight on these 2 hospitals (Jersey City Medical Center OR Palisaides Medical Center). Those of you who work/had clinicals there, did you like the environment? are the nurses willing to teach? how is the preceptorship? ThankS for any info!!!
  7. i would also like to know. thanks.
  8. Cheating is definitely wrong. But I do not disagree with some of the replies. I think it is more important for a student to realize that cheating is wrong and would not bring any future. As nurses, we should be empathetic, sympathetic, and forgiving to a certain extent. Just because someone cheated on an exam doesn't make one completely unethical. When we are young, sometimes we do not make the smartest decisions.. this doesn't mean we don't deserve a second chance. These students should not be kicked out of school.. but rather learn that they have done something wrong and never fall into the same pithole again.
  9. Hi all! I will be graduating from nursing school in December 2006. I really should be applying for jobs now... so I was just wondering if you guys can give me a hand :) Does anyone know how the pay is in Jersey City Medical Center? I live in Jersey City and would love to just commute 5 minutes to and from work. How does the pay in NJ compare to NYC hospitals? I go to school in Illinois, and the salary here ranges from 35-50 for a new grad :X Does anyone know what the highest salary is so far in the east coast?? Thanks for any advice!
  10. Hi all, I am currently in my last semester of my BSN program, graduating in December. I want to become a FNP but a little concerned about when to start the program. I was planning on working on the floor for a couple of months and then start the FNP program as a fulltime student in the fall. I do not know how the hospitals will regard me because it would be a waste of their resources to train me for 3 months then having me leave. So I guess my question is, should i go straight into the FNP program after I get my BSN... or should i work for 6 months and then start the program? Thank you for any advice!!!
  11. Lakeview College of Nursing in Charleston, IL. it's 3 hours south of Chicago.. PM me for more info about the program
  12. it took about 2 months for them to reply. by the way, the program is 3 years in length even after u've finished your prerequisites. i called up the director and he said we have to wait 1 year before starting clinicals. i was kinda disappointed to hear about this. im not sure if i still want to go to mt. st. vincent. :stone
  13. Hi SUBalumni I just got accepted into St. Vincent's nursing program! I've been googling for more information on the nursing program there, but there isn't much. i read from your other posts that you go there and i wanted to know if you can tell me more about the school. i live in NJ, and I am graduating in college this year. i got into an accelerated 16 mth nursing program in IL but it is too far away and I'd rather stay in this area so im thinking about attending st. vincent. i'm most curious about the clinical sites. which hospitals do students do clinicals at? do they have any that are in manhattan? i will be commuting from home. i live in jersey city, which is about 15 mins away from downtown manhattan. how big are the classes? is there a good gym on campus? do u know anything about the nclex pass rates? any information about the school would be appreciated. thank you so much! wish u luck with ur classes~~ :)
  14. it starts in Fall 2005.. it's a 16 month program... i can't wait to start! congratulations to you too!!!! :balloons:
  15. i got into Eastern Illinois University - Lakeview College of Nursing.. I think I got really lucky b/c my GPA isn't even that good (below 3.0), and I didn't even finish my prereqs!!! .. but i think my essay was good, and i got good recommendations... i applied to almost 12 schools just to be safe. thanks everyone for your support!!!!! :) good luck to those who are still waiting~~
