Hello all! Hope everyone is enjoying/enjoyed their Summer break. I finished my fourth year at my Charter school which I loved, however the hours they were requiring me to work for the upcoming school year didn’t work for me. So I left and started searching for something new.
I Thought I would spend the year as a substitute nurse in various local school districts. When I went in to meet with one of the nurse leaders in a neighboring district, she told me about an upcoming position that was brand new and had not been posted yet. She told me that looking at my resume, she felt like she was essentially reading the job description for this new job and thought I would be perfect for it. The only catch is it’s only 20 hours per week. Long story short, I ended up deciding to go ahead and accept this new position and make up any extra time with substituting hours.
I am really excited about This inew job. It is an RN case manager. I essentially travel around the school district to meet up with students who have high absentee rates and their families and see what types of nursing interventions might help keep them in school more. The hours are completely my own, I schedule them however I see fit, as long as I am there 20 hours/week. This gives me the flexibility I need and allows me to still be able to schedule subbing gigs. The pay is also way more per hour than what I was making in my previous district.
Anyway, I’m excited to see what this new year brings for all of us. Anyone else accept a new position for the year? If so, would love to hear all about it!

yay for you!!! I hope this new position is everything it promises to be. I'm still in my same position, starting year 3.

So far, it's great! One of the nurses in an Early Childhood program in the district had a family that had several issues that were overwhelming her and taking up more time than she had available. I was able to go to the school, call the family and make a plan. It feels god knowing I am helping both families, and school nurses. I know how hard it is when it is just you and no one can help with those more demanding cases. Also, the nurses in this district are great! They have a group text, meet up regularly and chat regulary so I feel like I have a cohort which is really nice!
