New students...what is your fall schedule like?

I was just wondering what everyone's fall schedule is like. In order to be accepted into our ADN program you need to have A&P I & II done, math, english and philosophy already done before you even apply. It's interesting to see that some are accepted before even completing those courses. I have also already taken Micro, sociology, psychology, political science and speech so those are out of the way. We have to have those done before we graduate, except for Micro which needs to be done before the 2nd semester!

When we got our acceptance letters, they allowed us to take Pharmacology in the summer. It's brutal but we're making it. Beaming525, Debstr and I are all in the same program...are we lucky to meet here first and then be in the same class? Hi Louisa and Debbie!!!

Anyways, I will only have 8 credits this fall. Not too bad huh? I will have nursing 101 lecture, lab and one day of clinicals. Yahoo!!!!

Let us know what your first semester will be like!

I'm starting my last semester in August (WOOHOO!!) All I'll have left is nursing classes. Three days a week, monday, tuesday and wednesday, which is awesome because it leaves 4 days off, but monday is gonna be insane because I'm in class from 7 until like 12, then I have clinical from 2 until ten...I'm gonna be braindead by ten that night!!!:chuckle

although i know what classes i will be taking, i do not yet know the days of the week or the time they will meet nor the clinical days times. i will not have orientation until next month.

entrance into our program (2 year community college in rural backwoods america :chuckle ) is based mostly on what classes you have completed before starting the actual nursing classes. i was put off for a year because of never having organic chemistry. but at the same time that i did start the program (2001) a very good friend of mine started and she had never had organic chemistry either. she is just now taking it and we grad. next june.

it is conceivable that a person could not have taken any pre-reqs and still get into the program. this has only happened once at our school successfully. most of the time i think they look at what you have completed combined with a first come, first serve basis.

hi ann, i feel that a person can do just what they set out to do and of course, it is an individual choice. are you taking any of these now (summer session) or do you mean you will take all of them this fall? either way, it can be done. let us know what you decide on and much success to you!

yes, i will say a prayer for you. you give it all you got, and god will see you through...i can witness to this.

with god, all things are possible!

We start Aug. 26, and I'm taking---

concepts of professional nursing

holistic health assesment---w/ clinical

pharmacology

pathophysiology

clinical nursing foundations---w/ clinical

for a total of 16 hours----YIKES!!!!!!!

In the first two semesters we had daytime clinical, and in the last two we have night time clinical, with the exception of our psych rotation, which was a daytime rotation that lasted four weeks. I always thought I'd enjoy the nights more, but with my two little girls I found it really sucked not being home to tuck them in and stuff two nights a week.:zzzzz

In the fall I am registered to take...

Pharmacology

Pathophysiology I

General Nursing Situations w/ lab

Modes of Helping II w/ lab

Clinicals

___________

Total of 12 credit hours

I will have class all day on Monday and Tuesday and clinicals all day on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I have no class  YIPPIE

Wow Ann, that seems like a heavy load. A&P is a time consuming class. You can do it though, with a well organized schedule that includes plenty of study time. I took 4 classes last semester, one of them being A&P I. I was surprised how much time A&P took out of my study time. I spent about 12 hours a week studying just for that class. Fortunately, my other classes weren't so demanding and I was able to complete all classes with a 3.9. Good luck to you Ann!!! You can do it!!!

This semester I'm taking;

Chem 101 4 credits

A&P II 4 credits

Eng 102 3 credits

I'm a little concerned about chem 101 because my math skills are not so great. I am going to sign up for tutoring as soon as the semester starts! I've already started reading the required books for Eng 102- so that should be a breeze. A&P will be time consuming- but I love Biology so I'm not too worried. I pray that I will survive Chemistry though!:o
