What is a typical hourly salary for a new RN in a doctor's office in NYC? I got my first callback and it was from a doctor's office in Long Island. The lady asked me what kind of salary I was looking for and I said "24-26/hr". I think she got startled by that and said, "Um, well, in these times, our office can only a salary very different from what you ask for." I asked what kind of salary they had in mind and she kept saying that it's different from what I said and then said she had to get back to me. She hung up before even saying goodbye. Was I overshooting? I thought it was fair for all the responsibilities she said I would have (height, weight, bp, hx, injections, teaching, scheduling, follow-ups, blood draws). Please tell me what salary is fair to ask for without scaring away potential employers!

Even if you might have replied "too high", would you really want to work for a company whose representative was so rude to you on the phone?

That seems really low. I was a new office nurse in Seattle in 1993 and I made 17 dollars an hour to start - 17 years ago!

the responsibilities mentioned are things i did when i worked as a medical assistant, so 17 an hour would be about right.
even though youre licensed, youre really not doing NURSING, assessing gathering data implementing and evaluating.
those companies that pay RNs to administer the flu vaccine are paying about 20 dollars an hour. I dont know if I would go to a Doctors office, its not like a hospital where that have a budget where they can pay a decent salary. But if youre looking to stay sharp and perform skills like BP venipuncture then by all means take whatever they give you. especially if you need a job for the time being. I guess until you find something else

I just got a call today for an interview at a Clinic as an RN . All that matters at this point is getting a job, especially for a new grad !!! The salary you asked seems reasonable. I don't know how much I will be getting , granted I get a job. But honestly, after job searching and not hearing from ANYONE and having soo many friends (RN's) that are jobless, I would be happy getting anything over $20/hr.
Wish you the best of Luck !
congrats futurern! and thanks everyone for the input.
I would have been willing to consider taking the job at a lower salary, but the lady never told me what salary they were willing to offer when I asked. I've been thinking about the appropriate response for when I get asked the "salary question" again. Should I just say, "it's negotiable, what salary is your facility offering for this position?" I really hope I get another chance again soon.
I work for a Plastic Surgeon

i have been looking for a rn hospital position for 8 months. i expanded my search to doctor offices and have finally landed a job. it is not my dream job but at least i am getting paid. my only concern is that i will lose all my clinical skills.
i have a bsn and am getting $22hr. not great but how can you negotiate with no experience. good luck all.
LINurse10, how did get a job in a doctor's office? I'm a new grad BSN, and I'd actually rather work in a primary care/doctor's office type of setting rather than a hospital. I really want to get my master's in Family Nurse Practitioner, and I that's where I wanted to start out- in a doctor's office.
