  1. NCLEX Review books! So helpful!
  2. OP, Im with you! I have no desire to work in a hospital and I hope to work in a Drs office when I graduate. For me my family comes first and 12 hour shifts are too much time away from my kids.
  3. yes, not comparing yourself to your other classmates is good advice...there are so ppl who just get it and are doing very well with little effort-that can be very intimidating. dont ask what others ppls test scores are or how theyre doing, etc..just focus on YOU
  4. I will def READ every night and not wait until 3 days before the tests. I will try my hardest to have my reading done before classes so I know what the frig theyre talking about! lol I did not do that last semester. I cannot for the life of me figure out my professors testing pattern and how they come up with their questions. there doesnt seem to be a clear strategy, like if you read every word of the chapters, the questions come from there or if you study the powerpoints, youll be set. I wish I knew!
  5. I think I should have asked to include when your Med/Surg semester is as that seems to be the killer I hear
  6. Im scared to death of Med-Serg as I heard its the weed-out course too!
  7. I just finished my 1st semester and while I passed, I struggled the entire time, passing by the skin of my teeth. Dont get me wrong, I am happy that I passed but freaking out at the idea of going back next semester bc Im scared Im going to fail if it gets any harder! My question is, does it get harder, stay the same or ease up as the semesters go on??
  8. I have the Fundamentals of Success NCLEX review book and while I can see why people think its a great book, It didnt help me at all with my Nursing school tests. I think it really depends on your class and how they test. Unfortunately, my nursing program tests dont focus on necessarily the MOST important points of each chapter like the Fundamentals Sucess book does. Alot of questions on my class tests seemed pick from obscurity and if you didnt read every line of the chapter in the book, you might not be prepared for the test. 5 tests later and I still cant figure out my schools testing pattern/style....grrrr
  9. My Final is next week and I am at a loss of how to study for this test. How do you study for a test that covers approx 3500 pages of information. Our exams unfortunately did not test us on the most important, 'standout' parts of the chapters. Many of the tests had questions on them that seemed to be plucked from obscurity (maybe our school uses the textbook test banks and thats why?) In any event, I dont know what to do. I want to do good on the Final. I HAVE to do good on the Final bc Im barely passing but Im not sure how to study for this test. Any advice? What is your strategy?
  10. Its 1st semester and so far we've lost 8. Finals week is next week and about 7 people are going to make it or break it depending on their grade so they might lose more
  11. There is no option to repeat if I fail. No, they do not review the tests after we take them. We can see our tests during office hours and Ive done that and it didnt seem to help:(
  12. To say Im a wreck is an understatement. I worked my butt off getting prereqs done (GPA 3.9 Deans List), I studied like a maniac before I took the TEAS (where I got a 92), Ive taken out $15K in loans and I am currently 1 POINT, yes, I said one single point away from FAILING out of the RN program. This is my 1st semester and had I known what I know now, I never would have entered the program. I have done all the 500 pages of reading between tests, Ive studied the Powerpoints from class and I have failed (failing is 74 or below) 3 out of 4 tests. Next week is our cumulative Final and I am a wreck. That test will determine if I make it to the next semester or if I fail out of the program. I cannot believe that the program is this hard. 8 people have already dropped out. And they say 1st semester is supposed to be the easiest, that Med/Surg in 3rd semester is the killer. I feel like It wouldnt even help to bury myself in my books bc its about the way my school tests! Instead of picking the most major points out of 500-600 pages to test on, they choose some of the most obscure, random details! It makes me soooo mad! I feel like they almost set you up to fail-there is no way the tests need to be this hard. When I read the practice NCLEX questions at the end of the chapters, I always get at least a 90. But I fail my tests at school. GRRRRRRRRRRRR Anyone else standing on the 'Finals' edge???
  13. Yes!! I went into it with a very postive attitude, totally committed. Had I know that the program was so poorly organized and haphazard, that when you asked questions you would get your question reiterated back to you as a response and that we would be required to read 700 HUGE textbook pages between tests with no real hints as to what of those 700 pages would be on the test, I would not have entered. I am so dissapointed in nursing school. I put blood, sweat and tears not to mention a ton of money preparing to enter the program and had I know it would be like this I would have not done it. Now I feel like Im in too deep $$ wise to quit:(
  14. Im in my 1st semester, 1st year of RN school. The amount of reading is ASTRONOMICALLLLLL! I had been warned that it would be alot of reading but this is almost laughable if it wasnt so ridiculous. I actually counted and we need to have read 700 pages (and Im talking HUGE textbook size pages) between our 4 major tests. I think its just my school that is THIS over the top and would like to do a comparison to see if my hunch is true. Hs anyone else counted how many pages they need to have read between their exams? If so, how many, is it also a huge textbook and how many exams are we talking about? Incidentally, there is no way I can manage to do all the reading. Its just wayyy too much for what my time allows.
  15. GM2RN, your acting like hospital nursing is the end all be all for an RN degree. WHY I chose the Nursing profession is really irrelevant to my post. I posted this question bc I am certain there are single mothers in my situation in the field of nursing who could offer alternatives to 12 hour shift work. If you have answers to my question, please post and I greatly appreciate it. thanks
