New RN program in So Cal!?!

U.S.A. California

For anyone who might care to share any info on this please do!

I was browsing http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml and voila a new RN program?! Everest offers a RN program?! I'm well aware of the LVN private schools and the public schools with the waiting lists for the RN. This must be a VERY new program, but its listed as accredited. I intend to call them as I'm a LVN student right now, but I had not noticed this school on the website a few months ago. I guess I'll give them a call, my curiosity must be settled.... definitely good news for nursing students in so cal.

Hi, Just to let everyone know. I recently went and talked to a counselor at ECC to ask for an application for the nursing program and was told that El Camino will NOT be accepting applications untill FALL of 2009, and then you would not be able to start untill FALL of 2010, because they are getting rid of the waitinglist. Everyone who was already on the waitlist will be accepted into the program durring the mean time. From then on there will be no waitlist acceptance will be based on gpa.

This is rediculious, a 2 year wait even if you have finished all your pre-req's and are ready to apply, even though people currently on the wait list may have some pre-req's in progress of have yet to even take them.

WOW! Really?? I tell you go to their Compton Campus. They don't have a waiting list. Leave the Main Campus alone. I am going to ask about that one. That sounds weird.

But go to the Compton Campus. If you got the required classes you won't have a problem getting in. But I will check and see if I can get more info.

Good Luck:typing

People pay the extra 40-60g's in a private college because they are sick of waiting 2-3 years to get into a nursing program in a CC. why wait when u can earn ur degree and make 60-100g's plus a year and be able to pay it off...i was lucky and had my lvn and all my prerequisites done and was able to get into a CC bridge program which cost me less than 2gs but my husband has no prerequisites done, so it would take him a year to do the prereqs (if he can even get into some of those full anatomy classes!) and then wait another year to get into the program and then another year to finish the program as an lvn...if he got in...thats like 3 years plus! Hes at west cost university now will be done in a year....you can make that money back quick folks...the private colleges works for those lvn's who has no prerequisites done and want to get their rns quick without the wait....if my husband would have listened to me before he would have graduated last year! Its really tough to get into a CC...because theres sooooo many people who wanna get in...good luck to all you folks at everest college! Don't worry about the school loan so much, get ur rn...trust me...you will be able to make the money back real quick if u really want to...registry...overtime..(pays about 500-700 a day)! Most hospitals full time is 72hrs/2weeks with full benefits...(3 days/week) so you got plenty of time to earn extra bucks...

actually 40g's isnt quite bad for a straight Associates program...not even an LVN bridge....this will go up a lot in a year or so....when my husband and i first looked at west coast university in 2006 it was 40,000 now its 60,000 plus and that was for the lvn-rn bridge!!!Theres also another private school in so cal that does straight ADN-RN...lvn-rn-bsn...national university in san diego...they have satellite campus like university of phoenix...too...but their rn class are in san diego...

Most of these schools like Everest and West Coast University is VERY expesive. At the moment, West Coast University costs about $63,000! If your currently in a LVN Program then I would recommend a LVN to RN Bridge Program at ANY Community Colleges, much cheaper.

This is all personal preference! If you guys actually look at your school loan for these LVN Programs, the one I graduated from, which cost me $22,000. I pay about $190 a month and the ACTUAL payment that I am paying off this loan is about $30. God Bless America, ehh?

COULD YOU IMAGINE PAYING OFF A $63,000 LOAN?

I always look at it this way, why start off your new career in a HUGE debt?

an education is an education.

its an investment for a future

i go to a private school

and there is nothing wrong with that!

you must look into your interest rate and fix it because where ever you got your loan has obviously high interest rates i would get it fixed

anyway doesnt matter where you go or how much it costs. just make sure your major will pay it off

simple as that...

HI APUalyssa,

What school are you attending? :typing

No, nothing wrong, but there are major differences between APU and West Coast University and Everest: regional accreditation and NLN/CCNE accreditation.

btw, I grew up near APU on the corner of Foothill and Barranca (in Foothill Village) :) When I finally finish chemistry and the two maths I have left, APU is on my list of schools to seriously consider.

Hi Vinnie,

Have you started the the program at Everest College? Is it true that Everest is not financing the school loans? I"ve heard of this girl that had to pay upfront $50,000 in order for her to start class so her father paid the amount because Everest wouldn't qualify them even with her father co-signing the loan docs. :icon_roll

hi

i go to APU (azusa pacific university) and its awesome!!!!!!

anyway

i live like a block away from APU i know many alumni from there and they all say its an awesome school (which from experience so far is true)

its one to fully consider

it has a cool BSN program as well as bridge programs for transfers as well

i will not start the the program until next fall but i am sure excited

anyway

i know its private and its a christian private as well (i have no problem with that since i am christian as well) so it is on the expensive side

its $12,000/sem and i am getting loans for it but its well worth it

so i think everyone should put debt aside

doesnt everyone remember what your high school teachers told you your senior yr of high school? money isnt the problem!

so i just dont understand why people look at private schools horrible?

mine is fully accredited and everything

i just dont get it...

APUalyssa. APU is more like USC than West Coast is. They both are private sure but one is considered to be a trade school whereas APU is not.

I will say this though as of this year West Coast University will be the biggest producer of RN's is CA so its reputation will build up ( or decline depending up on the school) over time. APU has been around longer.

Re the loans. Many of my friends have cars worth more than tuition at some of these "trade" school. Which payment is a better value in the end.
