New RN program in So Cal!?!

U.S.A. California

For anyone who might care to share any info on this please do!

I was browsing http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/rnprograms.shtml and voila a new RN program?! Everest offers a RN program?! I'm well aware of the LVN private schools and the public schools with the waiting lists for the RN. This must be a VERY new program, but its listed as accredited. I intend to call them as I'm a LVN student right now, but I had not noticed this school on the website a few months ago. I guess I'll give them a call, my curiosity must be settled.... definitely good news for nursing students in so cal.

I've attached the document that was emailed to me today (I noticed the file name is misspelled but that is how it came to me ).

I opened it hoping it would say it they were newly NLN and regionally accredited since I visited them, but it didn't. I would pay the money in a :redbeathe if it was!

Yes that's their standard info packet. Thanks for uploading it -- potential students will get that hard copy. The admissions reps are usually more willing to give information After you've passed the entrance tests (well thats how it was with ME until I passed them) ... Basically, we'll talk more after your results...

The last page I have is a little more updated, but the courses are the same.

Yes I got the packet at my 'interview' session, I'm just on the email list for announcements now. I canceled my entrance test when I learned the program isn't accredited. But I'm watching it for when it is accredited :)

Hi Apgar, which university(s) were you planning on attending for your MSN? I admit I haven't looked further into any colleges that might accept Everest's ADN. I'm just excited to be in a RN program nearby. For my circumstances this school is a great opportunity. (I'm no spring chicken either) :p

Now I'm not so sure about going on to get my BSN immediately after. I think I may wait a little, but I want the option down the road. I might consider completing it at Everest in the future when they finally do offer it, despite the $$$. They are pretty flexible, and I esp. like the small campus and parking situation.:)

LOL, I didn't give them my email address, I didn't even want to give them my phone number when I first went there to inquire! I've learned my lesson from some of these colleges I've checked out. They are very persistent sometimes. If I hadn't moved I'd probably still be receiving junk mail from a few (won't name them) .. worse than spam imo.

Hi Apgar, which university(s) were you planning on attending for your MSN?

I'm aiming for CNM so schools are CSUF and Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing. I can go in steps from ADN to MSN/CNM with Frontier. I'll go to whomever will take me when I finish all the lower division transfers! ;) So CSUF, CSULB, CSULA, UCLA, St. Mary's... any community college, lol!

I hear ya! I'm almost 40 so I really can't afford the time and money spent on taking a risk on the program. So I will cross my fingers they get accredited!

That was a perk I noticed :p Do you know yet where the clinicals will be? They only told me St. Mary's Hospital in APPLE VALLEY! I live in Newport Beach and that is more than 100 miles ONE WAY for me-- and believe it or not my mother just sold a house walking distance from there! lol Timing is everything...!

Oh and they got my email from my info session appointment so it's Christina Newsome the counselor writing to me not some random auto-reply email robot. BUT... they do have a phone bank in Denver calling me every week to see why I haven't signed up. ARGH.

Hello everyone,

I really can't see all that money to go to a private school when you can pay so much less. If you got the pre reqs look at El Camino College Compton Campus.

They do not have a waiting list. If you have your pre reqs and you are a student at the college and you have good grades then you will have no problem getting in.

They are the only Community College campus with no waiting list.

They have regular ASN and LVN to RN.

I am getting my pre reqs done starting this coming semester so that I can get into the program myself.

Why pay $40,000 when you can pay maybe $5000 to $7000 to get through school with prepreqs and supplies.

Don't spend all that money. If you are close to Compton check out the Compton campus of El Camino College.

Check with the nursing department for the next orientation session.

Good Luck everyone!!!

Does El Camino only accept students attending at their college for the nursing program?

CABO--

I am a new RN student at Everest and I saw your post. You should really focus on the natural sciences portion. Unfortunately, the online sample test isn't long enough and they do not really give you any other options. I personally went to http://www.testprepreview.com and they have a bunch of sample tests. I studied from the "nursing entrance exam" test, mainly the science portion (you don't really need the rest but it doesn't hurt to look). Good luck...hope that info helps! :nurse:

p.s. for those of you who are worried like i was....university of pheonix states:

rn to bachelor of science in nursing admission requirements

to enter the rn to bachelor of science in nursing degree program, you must:

  • have earned an associate's degree in nursing from a regionally or nationally accredited institution or diploma in nursing from a hospital school of nursing.

link for more detailed info: http://www.phoenix.edu/admissions/admission_requirements.aspx#rn

thus, you may receive your bsn and move on to bigger and better things...crna here i come!!!!!!woohooo!!!!!!!! :redbeathe:clown::heartbeat:bow:
