  1. I did some searching in the forums, and on the web but I get mixed answers. I've heard being a bi-lingual RN (Spanish) may only earn you an extra $.75 to a few dollars more, to a LOT more. But it's all just hearsay. I'd like to believe it's a lot more unless it's just wishful thinking? This topic continually pops up, and I'd like to hear different opinions. Hopefully some of you can clarify, or share your experience and knowledge, please? Sorry if I missed some threads on this. :typing
  2. wow, it's my understanding that hospitals are wanting to recruit from Mexico, to help understaffed hospitals and because of the high amount of spanish speakers. It makes sense, but it's a shame.
  3. Hi Des11283, Walnut is a nice area, somewhat suburban with plenty of places to go for fun. Just curious are you a recent graduate with a BSN or ADN?
  4. Hi Namaste_Melissa, Are you located in California? I don't see that school, Vanderbilt, on BON website, http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/apprograms.shtml .. and it looks like they're located in Tennessee. Are you going to practice there?
  5. LOL, I didn't give them my email address, I didn't even want to give them my phone number when I first went there to inquire! I've learned my lesson from some of these colleges I've checked out. They are very persistent sometimes. If I hadn't moved I'd probably still be receiving junk mail from a few (won't name them) .. worse than spam imo.
  6. Hi Apgar, which university(s) were you planning on attending for your MSN? I admit I haven't looked further into any colleges that might accept Everest's ADN. I'm just excited to be in a RN program nearby. For my circumstances this school is a great opportunity. (I'm no spring chicken either) Now I'm not so sure about going on to get my BSN immediately after. I think I may wait a little, but I want the option down the road. I might consider completing it at Everest in the future when they finally do offer it, despite the $$$. They are pretty flexible, and I esp. like the small campus and parking situation.:)
  7. Yes that's their standard info packet. Thanks for uploading it -- potential students will get that hard copy. The admissions reps are usually more willing to give information After you've passed the entrance tests (well thats how it was with ME until I passed them) ... Basically, we'll talk more after your results... The last page I have is a little more updated, but the courses are the same.
  8. Hi andimp00, Have you begun the Level I nursing courses yet? I was wondering how you are liking your school now. I'm in the first RN class in Everest, Ca, so I have no previous students to ask questions to. So far, I have a really good feeling about this school though! It's expensive, yes, but I received all of the financial information before I signed the dotted line, and understood what I was getting into----Thankfully, I haven't had any issues there with my loans, grants, etc. :)
  9. Hi Arizona students, I just stumbled on this thread, while searching... I'm in CA and starting the new RN program with Everest mid-July. I guess the first class in AZ is a good 6 months ahead of ours. I was wondering how the classes are going there? I wonder if our curriculum and requirements are the same? I suspect they are. Heres a thread about Everest in CA. https://allnurses.com/forums/f137/new-rn-program-so-cal-305970.html Thanks!
  10. Hi AstrelOne: They should accept your science and other general prerequisites, even if they are older than 5 years as long as it's a C or better and from a jr college or an accredited college. They'll still need official transcripts, so don't just take my word for it. BTW, as far as I know, there are already 20 seats confirmed for the next start date in January. The nice thing with Everest is that you may choose to take the prerequisite and general ed classes online or on campus. However, Micro & A&P MUST be taken at the school, along with the actual nursing classes of course. This has reduced the amount of time most students spend at school to 2 or 3 days. For example, my summer quarter schedule is 2 days (~ 10 hours) of campus attendance.:) The fall quarter will be more days for me because I'll need to take Micro and A&P II. You can choose to take all the classes on campus if you like - Nutrition might be the one class that is exclusively online.
  11. Thanks for that info, I hadn't thought about that! I just assume an AS degree from an accredited CA college would be transferable. But M.K did tell me at the time they didn't know whether these courses would be transferable to another institution, it would be up to each school. She also mentioned that everest was eventually going to offer the BSN there in several years (sounds like it'll be too pricey, imho).. not exactly sure what 'grandfathering' is. I will try and get in touch with her this week for clarification on all this. I'm not 'too' concerned about it, but ya it'll blow if it affects enrolling in ISU or a CSU's BSN program... I should contact their nursing depts too. hmmMmn... more questions!!
  12. hi cabo, wow, 500 applicants already? yes, mt. sac is a great school, i did a lot of pre-reqs there, plus a few at chaffey. i'm sure you've checked chaffey and citrus ccs rn programs? chaffey has a unique step program which is probably why they have a 100% pass rate. i believe citrus's rn program is *very* new too, so maybe there is less of a waiting list. i'm not basing my criteria on pass rates alone, since many newly accredited programs don't have one posted yet, as shown on the born site: http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml of course, you make the best out of what you get from your rn program. but i will use nclex study guides and reviews once i graduate anyway. it always helps to check the school's program drop rates too and speak to actual students if possible. in the end you will be an rn! i am planning to earn a bsn and msn within the next 6 years after the adn... pheeww! i'm looking way ahead... so, there are other things to consider for *my* own journey. but at least there is a new option out there!! good luck, let us know what you decide.
  13. a bit more... They do offer a LVN-RN bridge. LVNs will need at least 1 year acute care experience, a valid license, LVN transcripts with a cumulative gpa of 3.0, and pass the NLN ACE I-PN to RN exam. Also, the normal pre-reqs need to be completed and the start date would be in the 5th quarter of the ADN program. This is straight out of there recent info packet. :paw:
  14. Hi, check out this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f137/new-rn-program-so-cal-305970.html Everest College just became accredited in late April!
  15. Hi everyone, Sorry for the late reply, I will check this board more often! So here's the beans: I went to Everest College in Ontario last week, the campus is nice and small, it looks like a normal office building, and less than 4 years old. It's a Corinthian-owned-college so Yup it's expensive ... 42,5K. However, compared to the other private LVN schools in the area (20-25k, Concorde is 30K!) I think 21K per year for an ADN is reasonable with financial aid. I'm pretty certain in a few years they'll be compelled to raise it to like $60k. They DO accept college credit classes (they're not sure about CLEPs) of C or better which will definitely reduce the tuition costs. Pre-reqs to complete before starting the actual nursing classes are Microbiology w/lab, Anatomy and Physiology (these are included in tuition). The Basic GE classes included are: College algebra, sociology, gen. psyc, American Lit., English I & II, nutrition, and computer applications. The class limit is 40 with 10 placed on the waiting list. Classes are full time only for now, 8-4:30 M-Fri. (Fridays *might* be 8-12p). This is not for someone who has to work full time, unfortunately. Since they recently became accredited in late April, exact class scheds, clinical rotations, etc., are being worked out. There are 8 quarters in 2 years, and the next starting class after July 14, will be in January. So, as new as they are, they'll be impacted also - allowing 80-100 students each year. Applicants are being weeded out with testing scores (2 tests). Once you pass these tests you can make an appointment to complete an essay at the school and interview with the Nursing Director which is about an hour. They choose from the pool of applicants with the best scores, but also I think its somewhat first come first serve, and they are choosing Now. I've gone through all these steps and fin. aid, and was told that I have a seat. I live very close so I was able to complete the process quickly & I'm very excited! YAY! If any one is interested in this college, don't wait to make an appointment with a rep! The reps and staff can't answer all the questions because the program is so new but they'll tell you what they know. The nursing dept. staff are very friendly btw. Feel free to PM me, but do check it out for yourself, and Good luck!
