What hospitals in the San Fernando Valley area have new grad. programs?

What is the most effective way for a new grad. ADN RN to start working in SF Vally area, Id even be willing to start at a nursing home or any other health care that will be more willing to hire me.

I just graduated on May 12 and want to move from Chicago to California. I take the NCLEX 3rd week of June.

Thank You for any advice.

Moved to the California Nurses forum for more specific feedback.

Take the exam first, you will find it easier to get hired. But if your goal is to work in the hospital setting, do not start with a nursing home. It will make it harder for you to get hired in a hospital later on.

Many facilities have new grad programs that only start several times per year, so you are going to need to apply to them each individually. Also, would not consider moving out to the west coast until you have a job lined up. Much easier to pick a place to live based on where you will be working than the other way around. Traffic can be terrible and you do not want to deal with a long commute.

San Fernando Valley is actually quite large and encompasses quite a few square miles, would take the time to research the area closer to decide on what area of it that you are interested in as well.

And are you writing the exam for CA or for your state? If for your state, you are still going to need to go thru the endorsement process to get the CA license as well.

Congratulations on getting thru school and best of luck on your forthcoming exam.

try Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Northridge Medical Center, West Hills Hospital (or Medical Center), Kaiser Woodland Hills, St. Joseph's Hospital, there a couple of hospitals in Glendale, and the one in Pasadena is escaping me. good luck to you...

Olive View Med Center in Sylmar is an LA County facility with new grad programs in med surg, critical care, L&D and NICU. Take your NCLEX first and good luck! You can apply online once you have your license, keep your CPR current too.
