Just to clarify: Are you saying you will only do days? Or that you're willing to do days or evenings? Were you, at any time through the hiring process, told that a day / evening spot was expected to open up in the immediate future?
Days....everything else messes up the kids options.....
I was told that "it shouldnt be too long" before something opens up. There are multiple night shift spots open still......
YOu haven't done the orientation yet you said? If not, then I agree with Tweety, that you tell them you are very sorry, you make a mistake. You are not obligated. They might get upset if you left after orientation though. I found that when they say they have a day position opening up soon, run the other way unless you want a lot of headaches.

Okay, I am sitting here this morning trying desperately to decide what to do.....I left my per diem position in ICU because I was not getting hours and was always floated to other areas. I accepted a position that really excites me at another facility....so much so that I accepted a night position in hopes that I would transfer to days soon. I start general hospital orientation on Monday. Now, I am realizing that I just cant do nights....I have worked nights in the past and loved it, but I was 10 years younger, single, and no kids. Now I have 2 young daughters at home, have been battling depression, and I dont think I could handle it.
I have other options I can explore as far as jobs go.....
Should I call and let the manager know and give up the position at this late moment? I know that orientation costs the facility a lot of money.....or should I go ahead with the position and hope days open up before orientation is over?
If I give up the position will I be jepordizing future employement with this hospital? Is it a crappy thing for me to do?
