New Nursing Students- Spring/Fall 2012

Published

Now that many have gotten their letters for upcoming 2012 I thought I would make a new post for us in the Nursing Student section to make it official! :yeah: Thought it would be nice to come here to keep each other updated on our progress and whats happening in our programs thus far.

I got my nursing student registration date of December 20th to sign up for my classes, meet my classmates and meet my adviser. Then we have a new student orientation on January 9th. Found out the color of our clinical scrubs will be maroon (my favorite color) and we can purchase them from anywhere as long as they are maroon. Been looking at some good books to pick up to help with studying that have been recommended by students and nurses on this site. Heres a small list:

You might want to wait till you see your actual syllabus and book list before you purchase these. I will add more as I come across them, if you guys come up with any recommendations for books, ect, let us know. And make sure to post important dates you have coming up for your programs and how you're doing! I'm very excited and scared at the same time, LOL. :lol2: But I look forward to the challenge.

i am hoping to start in the fall.....i am taking A & P 2 now....A so far...A in 1 as well....micro spring semester......when do they let you know?......i want to know NOW!!!

Have you applied already?

Specializes in PD,Nxstage,hemo.

I was accepted into the Spring ASN program for 2012. I'm finishing up A&P II and Math now.

Ordered my books and uniforms last week.

Im ready for this semester to end so I can have a month break to clear my head and mentally prepare for the (nursing school storm) that will soon hit.

I am very excited and nervous but all together very greatful I made the cut:specs:

Hi, I am starting in January as well! :) I am very excited to get started!!! I've done my background check and drug screen. I also started my TB test, I have to have the two step TB test and had my titers and immunizations completed already! I updated my CPR certification so that it will be good for the next two years and already had that done before I got my paperwork. I just ordered my uniforms and have financial aid figured out so I will just be purchasing my books from the bookstore (easier for me). The only thing I really have left to do is to have my physical completed and get my shoes and stethoscope which are probably going to be Christmas presents! :)

i'll be starting my BSN program at CSU Long Beach in January, 2012! I can't wait until Orientation on December 2nd... Immunizations, CPR all done, and my stethoscope ordered! I look forward to this amaxing adventure... Congratulations to everyone!!!

I also start a BSN program in spring 2012! I completed my physical and all my immunizations are completed also! And i'm taking a cpr class in December. My orientation is on the 6th (of December). TIME IS FLYING BY!!

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted!! We are one step closer to our dream!! Yayz!!

Specializes in NICU( RN), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

I start Jan 4,2012

Yeaaaaaa us!!!!

Congrats! I start in January. I just got all my uniforms this past weekend and ordered most of my books. I have been checking my local craigslist searching for the initials of my school and found a former nursing student selling all the "whites", for clinicals. We also have a colored polo we are required to wear on campus which I will need to order from the bookstore. The seller also had used texts but they were not current editions and I didn't feel comfortable buying the used editions though she only wanted $150 for the entire programs texts. My first semester texts alone were $450 (used off Amazon/Half.com).

I went for my TB skin test this morning to complete all my immunization/health requirements before the deadline and found out I can't have a TB skin test in the time period required because I've had an immunization within 30 days and it would yield a false positive. Someone screwed up and I wasn't told this when I scheduled or got the immunization which could be done anytime, but my school was very specific the TB test be within a very tight time frame. So I was crying and feeling sick to my stomach that I'd lose my spot, but I talked to the school and I can get a chest X-ray in a couple days when I have my physical which will satisfy the TB test requirement. Phew!

I am reading Test Success right now. It was one of the many books the nursing student association raffled off at our orientation. I can't seem to stay awake reading it at home in the evenings, but I took it along to the doctors office this morning and I read an entire chapter while waiting to be called. So far it seems to be useful.

Specializes in NICU( RN), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

So my program starts in exactly one month, anyone else starting right after the holidays? I'm usually very happy about the holidays and love to just relax, but now I'm just ready for them to be done and over with! I went out and bought some stuff for school: Binder, highlighter, and pens the other day. I didn't get too much( I forgot my list of must haves from this site) though.I ordered that live scribe pen and four notepads as well. Anybody else start shopping? What is your must have?

My orientation is Jan 5, and then first day of class is Jan 9, but I've been so busy preparing to move, that I haven't even realised how close it's getting...I'm driving to AZ from NY, so I will do my school shopping once I reach AZ...still excited though :)

Specializes in None.

I want to say, congrats everyone!! I got accepted into the ADN program for Spring 2012 and I've been attempting to finish my check off list before orientation on December 9th and before school starts (Jan 14th).

Already done: all immunizations, background checked, drug tested, ordered the Dove uniform vest (that thing is expensive, super ugly and even though I ordered an XXS, I'm like swimming in it), ordered nursing kit, and just got CPR certified yesterday (was it just me or were others thinking about the song, "Stayin' Alive" when they were doing the chest compression?)

Still need to do: take passport style photos for badges (I hate taking pics...), buy white polo shirts, physical exam (will do that this coming week), order books, and buy misc. school/nursing supplies

So super super excited. I wish everyone the best of luck in your programs! :yeah:
