Help reading TEAS results?!
I don't think you have to worry too much about how "you+everyone else" did... I think you should just focus on how you did on your own, by yourself... 100% loving that score! Good job!

Taking TEAS after 3 year break in school
It would be extremely beneficial for you to study for the TEAs. I have a 4.0 GPA in the required sciences and I still had a tough time with the stupid science portion. If you can get the ATI study guide and the 2 practice tests with it as well as the McGraw Hill book (I heard this is very helpful when it comes to preparing yourself for science portion). Those are the only items you will really need to get. I took most of my science pre-reqs farther back (~5 years ago) than you and I was still able to remember most of it through review. I studied for about a month on and off for about 4 hours a day. I didn't do super hot, but I didn't bomb it. You know yourself best, you'll figure out how much time you need to study. Good luck to you!

What to do during summer
I'm not sure if you are interested or if you have such a program in your area, but I think it might be neat to try volunteering for hospice. It'll give you some hands on patient experience. You have to be trained first, it's about 24 hours worth of lecture and then you're certified to volunteer.

I'm In! But Can I Afford It?!?
I'm not sure if your school does this, but the our school library generally has the books to check out for a couple of hours a day. I think I remember reading some students doing that instead of buying the books. I'm going to check with my professors to see if they will allow me to use an edition previous to the one that they are asking for us to get. As for other finances I also remember seeing a whole list of scholarship grants (not loans) for nursing. You can check with your school to see which ones they offer. I saw one for single mothers, low income, leadership involvement ones, volunteering ones, etc... you should look that info up! And yes you will be able to afford it... where there's a will there's a way! Good luck! And congrats on your acceptance!

Help reading TEAS results?!
Actually your results are also included into the national and program average. So individually you got 100%, but the 100% you got is also calculated into the national and program average... I think... or so I've been told.

Reading portion of TEAS V
I also had trouble deciphering what was what, I found it helpful to go through the questions I got wrong and look over each answer choice and figure out why they are wrong and not right. By being able to know why each answer choice is wrong or right helps you establish your understanding of knowing which is which. Do you have any SAT prep material? It might help you further understand how to break down main ideas. I thought the ATI pretty much covered what you need to know, but I bought the "SAT prep book for subject test: literature" in addition (just in case). It has a lot of practice exams in there that might help you just get comfortable with test questions, but I think ATI pretty much breaks down what you need to know for the test. When I was studying for the exam, I just went over all the questions again and figure out why I got it wrong or right (that'll help you comprehend what the questions are asking). Sometimes when you take practice exams or the actual exam, you get nervous and you read through quickly and give the wrong answer. Best bet is to try and slow it down a bit. It's better to understand it the first time reading, instead of rushing it and having to go over it again and again. And to keep doing a bunch of practice questions so you get what's considered the main idea, the topic, the theme, etc.

Curious...
Hiyee... I took Anatomy some time back and I'm also a visual/hands on learner. My trick trick during lectures was drawing... The drawings helped me visualize what the instructor was saying and I think it was also helpful that my instructor didn't straight up lecture from power point slides (I abhor those lectures!!). Maybe you can speak to your instructor about this. I know some schools try to incorporate different teaching styles to accommodate their students. In physiology class I did the same thing... I drew everything out... from its humble beginnings in a cell, moving up to more complicated systems (it was like a map, showing the inner workings of the body and how they connected). During exams, I have an image of my map in my head and that allowed me to do well on my exams. I wish I have my huge poster drawing so I can show you, but my professor hung onto it. The tape recording thing didn't work for me... I wouldn't listen to it afterwards because I found it super boring. Even though lectures were hard for me to sit through... the movement of my hands (i.e. writing notes and drawing pictures) helped me retain stuff. Oh! Another thing... re-write lecture notes over again before the end of the day. When I rewrite notes, it actively forces me to re-think of what went on in lecture. It's also helpful to have study groups! Sorry for babbling... I hope that helps

Nursing School Rejection Letters
Blessed2bfree... The schools I applied to (junior college in northern California) are lottery based after you meet their requirements to be eligible to even apply. So since you have the same chance as everyone else after you qualify for applying, the rejection letter (the one I received) only stated,"You were not selected in our random selection to start the nursing program." Other programs (non-nursing related) I have applied to in the past (more merit based), didn't tell me why, just that they had too many applicants, that they regret they couldn't accept me and wished me luck. It was a nice way to soften the blow after you send them hundreds in primary and secondary application fees. It's possible the previous time you applied, there were less applicants... now the applicant pool has grown considerably large! I would try to talk to the counselor (in your school's nursing department) and see what they say. And I've tried calling them on the phone too... I think it would be easier to try to talk to someone in person or (in my case) sending emails. Best of luck to you!

How oh how should I study?? TEAS
Hey Baybella91! I took the test back in October and personally, I thought the science section was pretty tough. The questions are completely random and I wished I looked at the McGraw Hill science section before taking the test. I studied for the test a month ahead on and off using the ATI study manual. I think it's best if you can get the 2 practice exams from ATI too, I thought they were real helpful. Personally I felt that Form B was most similar to the test I received (the way the questions were asked). Bio: I used ATI and looked up science questions online, used old class notes, but I didn't feel prepared enough for this section. Math: pretty straight forward, the problems are basically the same as in the ATI manual Grammar/Reading: I used ATI and I also bought a grammar book at the bookstore and studied that. Most of what you need to know is in the ATI, the only thing I regret was not studying from McGraw for the Science portion. Best of luck studying! If you want, I think I still have some of my outlines and I can send them to you

New Nursing Students- Spring/Fall 2012
I want to say, congrats everyone!! I got accepted into the ADN program for Spring 2012 and I've been attempting to finish my check off list before orientation on December 9th and before school starts (Jan 14th). Already done: all immunizations, background checked, drug tested, ordered the Dove uniform vest (that thing is expensive, super ugly and even though I ordered an XXS, I'm like swimming in it), ordered nursing kit, and just got CPR certified yesterday (was it just me or were others thinking about the song, "Stayin' Alive" when they were doing the chest compression?) Still need to do: take passport style photos for badges (I hate taking pics...), buy white polo shirts, physical exam (will do that this coming week), order books, and buy misc. school/nursing supplies So super super excited. I wish everyone the best of luck in your programs!
