New Nursing Student With Excelsior

Published

I am currently enrolled in Excelsior's AAS, RN program. I am studying for my A&P & NC1. Is there anywhere besides Excelsior where I can get a A&P book from? Does it matter who makes the book? I am so worried b/c I do not want to fail any classes b/c this school is expensive. It is good for military and their families or anyone who doesn't have time for a classroom nursing program, but the price is :no:WOW!!!!

Anyone who can help me prepare or give me guidance. It will be appreciated...

Thanks

I tried to stick with the textbooks recommended by excelsior. However, I bought very few from them. I already had a few in my collection that were very similar to the recommended text so I just used what I had.

And for the rest, I frequently scoured ebay and have gotten some great deals. Did occasionally buy a used college network study guide if it was cheaper than the text.

Also frequently found books on http://www.bigwords.com/. They compare prices of all the major stores (exept ebay)for the book you are looking for to find you the cheapest copy.

What is the college network? I hear a lot of students saying they went to the college network. Should I just go to Google and search for it?

The College Network (TCN) is a publications company similar to Chancellor's, if you're familiar with them. They are VERY expensive; you can actually purchase used TCN modules on eBay. Their materials aren't bad, but they require you to sign a contract if you buy their materials directly from them. I wouldn't go that route, personally.

welcome neshia to ec! lots of web sites on a&p and videos regarding materials covered in nc1 and nc2. :D :wlcmggrp::hrns&wlcm::yeah:

hey neisha...i too am jsut starting with EC's program. I'm doing A&P now as well. I'm not much for studying two different ones at the same time, so A&P is first then i think i will skip micro, do my nursing ones and pick micro back up last..lol. i love the nursing stuff, hate the science and math portion of it! LOL. just wanted to say good luck and welcome aboard! My goal is to finish within 12 months (except for the CPNE since the wait for it is so long!) and since i promised my hubby right before he deployed that i would, i guess i need to get on the ball!

I am using the TCN's modules (i signed with them before i knew you didnt HAVE to in order to take the courses!) I like the way the A&P one is broken down, but i also have an A&P text to use (the recommended one by EC) that i got on amazon.com used. it only cost me $20 with shipping and included the CD, and was only 1 edition behind the recommended one. I find that i'm the type that needs to read the same info in a few different ways to pick up on it.

I passed Excelsior's A&P & NC1 last year. In my experience, NC1 was fundamentals that were covered in my LPN course. So I used my LPN course textbooks only. For A&P, I used the simple (made easy & for dummies type-this was a personal choice helping me with a foundation to build on) books plus a college textbook. (Not Excelsior's)

Also, I basically followed the same routine for Excelsior's Microbiology.

Oh (I almost forgot) I used Excelsior's practice tests for A&P. Helped a lot.

but if I was still a corpsman I would fly by the CPNE. ( I THINK:cool:)

Nurses with years and years of experience have failed. It's not so much what you know. It's what you don't know. You have to behave as a fresh grad. Do you have your LPN? I didn't think they accepted corpman but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time but you should check before you get too far into it.
