I need your help and prays. I am a married mother of six children and I will be starting nursing school in august. I have seven classes next semster and I don't know how I am going to manage them all. Can someone suggest what can I do about making time for studing and taking care of my family? God has granted my desire to be a nurse and I dont want to mess it up. Thank you in advance.

Good luck to you. Welcome!
Did you talk to an advisor before signing up for seven classes?? That doesn't sound like a reasonable load. Good luck!

I have to agree with Tweety. That seems like an almost unbearable load. I would keep it to no more than 12 hours, or the minimum hours to make a full time load. That will be really difficult. YOu know your limiations better than anyone else, but with a family, you will be spreading yourself VERY thin.
Good luck to you.

Time management is a MUST, it is difficult to take seven classes but I have been there AND pulled off a 4.0---I don't have any children, however, so I know that makes things extremely difficult.
My advice is to purchase a mortar board (it's basically a daily planner that some universities offer). I like those because they have large areas for you to write, if you can't find one--a daily planner would also work. Everytime you are given a syllabus, go through and write down important dates--and as the year progresses also write down whatever is due and things you need to read. By breaking down classes and spacing out your chores on a planner, you visually see what you need to do and are able to map out your plan of action...
I ended up not thinking taking such a load was hard at all once I got started and got organized! Good luck

Well, I just wanted to add a little bit to your post. I too am a married mom to six wonderful children. I will also be starting my clinicals this fall. I am so nervous, but then am so excited. I tested my skill by taking 4 heavy courses this past winter. They were dosages & solutions, pharm, nutrition, and multicultural healthcare. There were times I thought I was going to lose my mind, but I did pass all 4 with 4.0s. I wouldn't recommend too many heavy courses. What are you going to take? I also have a friend who just did the same courses I did in the spring semester, so she could begin clinicals too this fall. She has 6 children also. I had to tutor her cause she was stressed, but our spring is 7 1/2 weeks vs my winter of 15 weeks long. So she took a hard hit. But she did get through with 3 4.0s and a 3.0 in pharm. So she is very happy.
I know kids in general are very time consuming. Mine are all under the age of 10 with my youngest just turned one on the 20th. So I guess it sort of depends on your kids ages. Are they very young to they depend on you quite a bit? Is your DH a supportive figure? Do you have to work during this too? There are so many questions.
I am very happy to see another mom like me. It is a rarity anymore. Not many people have a large family anymore. I was so excited to meet one in my shoes. Now there is 2! If you would like, email me. I would love to keep in touch. [email protected]
Good luck!

Please speak to your advisor and see which classes you can drop for now. This is a lot of classes, I too am a single mother of 3, however, my kids are almost grown, so I didn't have too many problems. I took just enough credits every semester to keep my financial aid.. It took me 4 semesters, but I start my clinicals in August, so it can be done, I will keep you in my prayers, and watch for your progress , please keep us informed.
Thank you for your advise. This will help me. The course I am taking are intro to prof nursing, concept & theory think nursing, found of phys assessment, foundations of nursing, found psychosoc nursing, clinical, and dosage. I have two teenager, 5, 3 and 1 year old twins. My advisor made out my schedule for the fall semster. I dont mind the load if it means that I will be out of school with my bsn less than 4 years.
