New mom wanted to go to a Nursing School

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello. I will have a Baby on November and I am in the process of getting my ADN. would it be possible to study nursing and have a baby? how difficult would that be? To all the mommas here who went to a nursing school, how did you manage? did you have a hard time studying and passing? in my situation, i have no family here to look after my child and my husband is working 12hours a day. I am pretty sure the the baby sitter will cost me a lot of money too. Thank you for reading.

I am not a mother, but plenty of people in my program are. Several mothers of 3 and one mother of 5.

Easy? No.

Possible? Yes. Many things are possible. I have learned much in the last four weeks.

"I am not a mother"

Come to think of it, I am not a father either.

I think you can do most online. I know a lot of people go to ccconline.com for some and some people go to excelsior online. Online the only downfall is that if you go to an online college the credits can get pretty expensive. For me, I got a scholarship that pays my tuition, and the online college I'm at the books are free for undergraduate studies. So I'm taking Public Speaking, Sociology, Psychology, Physiology, and American Government at the online college. Then in the Spring I'm gonna transfer to a local community college, and i'm taking English online, a hybrid Math class, and A&P1. Then Summer I'm taking A&P2, hybrid Math, and a Student Development class online...ect ect...just everything that I have a chance to take online, or even half online, I jump on it, because that's more time that I'm gonna have at home with my kids, and not paying a babysitter. How long it takes depends on how many classes you take at a time. I'm taking up to 3 at a time and I'm hoping to have all my prereqs done by Fall 2012.

Ohh i see. so it is a very long journey huh.. ohh well it doesn't matter. I wanted to start ASAP. I can't wait to get started mine.

It believe it can be done. Im a single mom of two boys 5 and 1. My soon to be ex-husband left us at the begging of the year and I have no family around. I rely on babysitters when I can and friends that can help me out when they have the chance. I have taken most my pre-reqs this past summer and this fall. Im hoping to get into Nursing school by the Fall of 2010. I know it is going to be hard, but I think if you put your mind to something and work hard enough it can be done. I think it will be VERY rough at times, but just remember the ultimate goal. Good luck with everything!!

Thank you very much and Good luck to you as well! are you taking your pre-requisites on campus?

This is exactly right. You said a mouthfull. I took as many classes as I could. My GPA took a hit, but I got into the clinical classes faster than I would have by taking it slow and making all A's. It just depends on how you want to play your cards.

awesome! all A's? congratulations! you really did a great job! that would be my goal too.

No no, I did NOT make many As at all. I decided to take as many classes as I could, knowing I would make lower grades. Some people take less classes and make better grades that way because they have more time to spend on each class.

I see..yeah my husband told me in order to get a higher grades you should take less classes. that way, you have more time to study each subject.

I took one class online and one class on campus each time so far. It has worked out pretty well that way. Much less expensive in childcare and I like doing the work at home. The classes I took at the school were the ones I felt would be harder like chemistry and some of the math classes.

during my ADN course 4 of my classmates had babies and completed their degree on time with my class. I am sure that their homes were dusty, they ate way too much take-out and didn't always get the grades that they might have without the added pressure. They are now able to provide for their children even in a recessionary economy. Go for it. Don't give up. Know your own worth and love yourself but remember that pregnancy is not a disability and you shouldn't expect any favors from faculty.
