New mom wanted to go to a Nursing School

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello. I will have a Baby on November and I am in the process of getting my ADN. would it be possible to study nursing and have a baby? how difficult would that be? To all the mommas here who went to a nursing school, how did you manage? did you have a hard time studying and passing? in my situation, i have no family here to look after my child and my husband is working 12hours a day. I am pretty sure the the baby sitter will cost me a lot of money too. Thank you for reading.

I took one class online and one class on campus each time so far. It has worked out pretty well that way. Much less expensive in childcare and I like doing the work at home. The classes I took at the school were the ones I felt would be harder like chemistry and some of the math classes.

Ohh really, that's great! I will also take one at a time it is easier for me that way.

during my ADN course 4 of my classmates had babies and completed their degree on time with my class. I am sure that their homes were dusty, they ate way too much take-out and didn't always get the grades that they might have without the added pressure. They are now able to provide for their children even in a recessionary economy. Go for it. Don't give up. Know your own worth and love yourself but remember that pregnancy is not a disability and you shouldn't expect any favors from faculty.

Thank you for the enlightenment..i will definitely do it. it is for my baby's future.

I work a full time job, go to school part time for my pre-reqs and have two children ages 5 and 1. My husbands job requires quite a bit of travel so I do a lot of juggling on my own. Online classes are GREAT but you really need to make sure you manage your time well or you will fall behind pretty quickly. Since there is no one there to hold you accountable and you don't have to actually go to a class it takes a lot of self control. They really are fabulous for people like us though that have kids and jobs etc.

Another option you might want to look in to is childcare on campus. My CC offers childcare for a VERY reasonable price.

Good luck!! It will definitely take a lot of juggling and sacrificing but it is worth it and will go by faster than you think! Just make sure to stop and take some time to enjoy your new baby. They grow up even faster.

wow thanks for the reply! i know it wouldn't be easy on my part but i will take one at a time. you are right it will take a lot of sacrificing but worth it. I know i can do this, this is what i want and i will not quit. yeah CC offers childcare but my God the waiting list here in our CC is up to 2013. the other college that i want to get in with doesn't offer childcare but they do have nights and weekends classes.

Hi I'm Q! I'm new to this. I've never done a forum before but now i can't stay off it,but anyway I'm a new mom too and going to school for nursing and me personally i think its going to be hard, because he's 10 months and i work third shift at the hospital drawing blood and trying to go to class in the day time and get sum rest before i have to go back in and try to spend some time with him, But by the grace of god, my mom and my boyfriend, i think it would be impossible. I'm doing it for my son.

Just think about your kids that should motivate you to go to school.

:D

a babysitter will take a pretty good chunk of money...but it will be worth it!! It really sounds like you have the motivation to do it momma! its a lot harder with a little one but totally do-able!

Once you are a nurse you will know that if something ever happened to DH you would be able to take care of your little one!!

good luck and congrats momma!!!

Hi I am married with a 4 1/2 yr old and a 3 1/2 yr old and I work fulltime and go to nursing school parttime. It is alot of work I completed Nursing 101 and Nursing 124 i didnt pass 124 i was off by one point so i have to retake it. There is so much studying to do that you really do need someone to help out with your child. I would find myself studying at night after they went to bed and at work when ever i could and i was just getting by. I am married but my husband is always supportive of me so i dont get to study like i should. I try my best. But believe nursing school is the hardest school i have ever been too and i have been going to school at night for over 10 years now. I started back in 1996 and went through to 2004 to get my bachelor in Accounting. I was working fulltime and going to school at night and never had a problem with that degree. I never thought that nursing would be this hard. All i can say is try to find some classmates to study with that did help me but then my study partner dropped out of school so i was on my own so that didnt help any. I do get one more chance to take the class again but if i dont pass i cant take it anymore. Good luck and just stay focused because it will be well worth it.

I agree wit the person that posted above, have a 'study buddy' they are so beneficial. I have a two children ages 5 and 2, I'm a single mom (sole parental figure) full time employee. I am currently finishing up the pre-req classes for the nursing program. I am blessed to have my parents help with watching my kids and pick up and drop off for Kindergarden. You do manage to find time to study after the wee tots go to bed. Everyone learns differently though and some people strive with 'chaos' going on around them so who knows, multitasking might drive you. :)

Good luck! and Congrats with the new baby!
