Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello. I will have a Baby on November and I am in the process of getting my ADN. would it be possible to study nursing and have a baby? how difficult would that be? To all the mommas here who went to a nursing school, how did you manage? did you have a hard time studying and passing? in my situation, i have no family here to look after my child and my husband is working 12hours a day. I am pretty sure the the baby sitter will cost me a lot of money too. Thank you for reading.

First of all, CONGRATS!:yeah: and yes, it's not going to be easy being a nursing/pre-nursing student with a newborn... but it is POSSIBLE!!! I'm currently in my first semester in a BSN program, and I also have a baby boy barely turning 4months... and a 4 year-old boy on top of that... Let me tell you, my life right now is busy...busy... busy... it's mainly about STUDYING, STUDYING, AND STUDYING....doing chores, and spending time w/ my boys... (I always make time for them, no matter what)... Don't really have time for a social life... husband works graveyard, so he's supportive... but not 100% supportive... SO just remember... anything is possible if you put your mind and heart to it... you can do it!:D:D

I just wanted to say...I feel you!! I'm pregnant also and due the end of December. I already have a 3 and 1 year old. I'm taking a full load this semester (prereqs), and most likely will start nursing school in January. So, that'll make my youngest about 4 weeks old when I start the program! I also have a 30hr/week job. As far as what I've experienced so far, it is a lot of work, but if you're determined enough, you can do it!!! And you can be very successful at it!

I just wanted to post my two cents too! I started going back to school fall semester 2008 to start my prereqs for the ADN program, while working full time and going to school at night. At the time, my son was just turning 1 that october. I got my A&P I and II as well as lifespan development down. I was supposed to start my ADN program this past September, but I found out that I was pregnant with my 2nd due in November. So I put starting off until next fall. But in the meantime, hubby and I moved from NH to NC, so now I'm starting the application process all over again, hoping I have enough points to get into the ADN program starting in fall 2010 (the only class I don't have that could have taken to get points is Micro) so at the time I *hopefully* go back, my son will be almost 3 and the new baby will be close to 1. It's definately doable!

Try one class to begin with and see how it goes.. only know how much you are capable of. Don't pile on too much, you dont want to bite more than you can chew, and having your GPA drop because of that. do your pre recs nice and slow, enjoy your precious baby!!

Maybe you and your baby will be ready for day-care when you get into the program, remember there are many programs with long waiting lists and the ones w/out waiting lists require high GPA's, at least in my area (Central FL).

Most importantly

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :loveya:

I am in the 2nd year of the LPN course in Canada. I think it is called RPN, or VPN in the states. I am planning on working for a few years and then bridging into the RN program. I had been out of school for 15 years when I started last year. My kids are now 14, 13 and 22 months. When I started last year my youngest daughter was only 8.5 months, and I was still breastfeeding; actually still at it, although only once or twice a day. The biggest thing I found was being organized. At the beginning of each semester we find out dates for tests/exams assignments. I find knowing what is due when, up front, makes it easier to plan. It always seems there are multiple tests/assignments due at once, so by planning you can keep your head above water. Yes, there are times, when I think I am going to go crazy, because every free minute you get, you are always thinking, what can I fit in right now?!? I keep reminding myself that I am more than half way through, and I have made it so far with honors! I think being older, and being a parent helps, as it keeps you more focused. Plus, some courses are a piece of cake, because being a mom, 'you've been there/done that'! They certainly help take the edge off, because they balance out the toughies like Anatomy and Physiology or Pharmacology! It is hard to not be home with my youngest like I was with my older kids, but I keep reminding myself everyone will benefit. Not just financially, but having that sense of accomplishment, and doing something that I have always wanted to do and love, will make me a better mom and person in the long run. :)
