  1. I completely understand what you mean... I've been in school for a while now.. and I know a good instructor when I see one... I've had a nursing instructor where she would just read off the powerpoints... and I was like.... HUH????? why do I need to drive 1 WHOLE HOUR to school to listen to you read the powerpoint notes when I can do that myself at home; but, on the other hand, there are those instructors (usually w/ more experience) that utilize powerpoint notes differently... in a much more effective way... where they thoroughly explain the process and go into details and give examples or further explanations of the material, which really helps aid in learning...
  2. I'm not at all ashamed of being a nursing major. Honestly, if we nursing students and nurses aren't proud of our work and appreciate every bit of it, who will? But, I get what you mean, when there are those that don't even understand the profession and are just trying to get in the program because they think the money is good. The truth is, those individuals won't make it in the program. I'm in a BSN program right now... and honestly... it's tough... if you're not passionate or even caring about others...you'll be second guessing yourself... But, because... I want this so much... I'm giving me allllllllllllllllllll........ SO DEEPLY PROUD of MYSELF... I'm gonna be a RN NURSE in the future and when I get old I'll be depending on a NURSE and not ashamed of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. First of all, CONGRATS! and yes, it's not going to be easy being a nursing/pre-nursing student with a newborn... but it is POSSIBLE!!! I'm currently in my first semester in a BSN program, and I also have a baby boy barely turning 4months... and a 4 year-old boy on top of that... Let me tell you, my life right now is busy...busy... busy... it's mainly about STUDYING, STUDYING, AND STUDYING....doing chores, and spending time w/ my boys... (I always make time for them, no matter what)... Don't really have time for a social life... husband works graveyard, so he's supportive... but not 100% supportive... SO just remember... anything is possible if you put your mind and heart to it... you can do it!:D
  4. Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it!:)
  5. Thanks for the info! Now, that answers my question. It's just that last time, the instructors told me they were planning for the transition of 5 semesters to begin in Fall 09... but I guess they decided to hold it off. Anyways, as far as trying to accelerate to 2nd semester... you're right, I'll have to take 282, 283, 284, and 285... which seems so very overwhelming and incredibly crazy, but hopefully possible. I'm okay w/ just starting out w/ 282 and 283... but the director offered to try to get me a clinical spot to be accelerated so that I would be able to finish the program faster... Which I also have no problem.. because I really don't have any other classes to take except my two theme courses.... and after all, I was supposed to be a Fall 08 nursing student.... But, I won't be able to find out until next month whether there is a clinical spot for me or not to be accelerated.... I hope there is a spot for me though... I just want to finish school as soon as possible... Oh... and what ever happened to 281? I remember I was enrolled in 281 during Fall 08... but is it not required now? And I remember in 281, we had to choose an elder patient and build a professional nurse-patient relationship to accumulate a certain required visiting hours w/ that patient.... and also we had to attend outside events to acquire multi-cultural experiences... Did you have to do any of that this semester? Or is it just all lectures and exams?
  6. Hi FUTURE_ER_RN. I'm guessing you're in 1st semester right now. Anyways, I was curious.. did they shift to a 5 semester program as of spring 09 or is it just going to switch in Fall 09.. And another thing... if 1st semester is 6 units and 2nd semester is 6 units also... how's that going to work as a 5 semester program... do you know? I was accepted to the program in Fall 08 ... went to school for 2 months but... encounter family emergency and needed to take time off... so I'm going back and starting the program again in Fall 09... I was told they we're shifting to 5 semesters instead of six starting in Fall 09.... but it's really hard to figure out how it all works out w/out having a class schedule and knowing which classes to enroll in until given instructions for the semester coming up. And are you taking NURS 282 and 283 right now? Reason I'm asking is because if enough space... they will try to accelerate me to 2nd semester buy having me take more classes + clinicals... so I just wanted to know what the better option is...
  7. okay...so i was not able to get in my first choice which is the bsn program that i wanted to get in soooo badly, instead i got in my local adn program this fall 08. i'm all set and ready for the semester to start next week.... quit my job, got my physical, immunizations, drug and background check, text books, nursing pack, scrubs etc.. then yesterday.. i got a call from the the bsn program saying that they had a spot available for me, and if i wanted it...i was like ummm... ummm. umm.. yes... of course i want it!! but, now i'm not sure which program i should attend.. i definitely want to get my bsn... instead of an adn.. but problem is the bsn program is a 3 years program.. and the adn program is two years.. in addition, the adn program is 10 mins from my home.. the bsn program is 1 hour away.. soo.. i researched the rn-bsn program for returning rns.. and it looks like it's a whole lot of courses to take..for a rn going to bsn.. so i suppose i rather do the general bsn program.. but, gas prices are super krazy these days and i have a husband and son to worry about.. i have financial issues.. and so many more things to worry about if i attend the bsn program.. i'm just going nuts!!!! i really want to attend the bsn program.. but it's just too complicated w/ my situation right now....before i was okay w/ not having any other option and just attending the adn program.. now that i have an option and a decision to make.. i'm terrified.. i don't want any regrets.... all i know is that if i don't make a decision sooooon i won't get a goood start in neither nursing programs.. please... anyone .. got any advise?
  8. i'm planning on taking the hesi exam this wednesday... i'm very nervous.. and completly pressured...i need to pass this exam in order to maintain my acceptance for the fall 08 nursing program at my college... i've taken the teas before.. and thought it was alright.. does anyone know if the hesi and the teas are any similar? and what should i expect from the hesi? is there any a&p?... i know the teas barely had any a&p.. and how's the chemistry like.. is it difficult? any balance equations? i have the hesi study guide.. but i'm not sure if i need to study more from other text books... please if you've taken the hesi.. let me know what to expect!!.. thanks a bunch!!! and how many questions are there?
  9. i got in to the adn program at yuba college... i was really hoping to get in a bsn program instead... so i'm really hoping people bail out! in the meantime, i've accepted my spot at yuba already.. i guess all that matters is that i've been accepted somewhere.:)
  10. well, i got my :nurse:acceptance letter :nurse:the other day for my 2nd choice of school... and i'm super thrill about it:yeah::):), starting this fall...but what i really wanted was my first choice which was to get in the bsn program at chico state... turns out i'm alternate #14 in that one... that's quite a long way... i don't think 13 people will be declined or refuse to accept their spots, right?
  11. congrats to those that got in!!!! well, just turned in my application to chico state... had to get my teas sent to them through ati...hopefully my teas gets to them by tomorrow...i've been off the deadline a couple of times the past semesters... (this is what happens to procrastinators, like myself 8p) i got my csu admission application and my nursing application in on time this time, as well as my other documentations for the optional criterias... but... i'm just worried about my teas score.. if it's going to be on time or not.. i'm gonna call ati tomorrow to check!..... i'm praying it gets sent by tomorrow... or else... who knows what's gonna happen! well, all i can say is... it's going to be a long month and a half waiting!!!! i'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)
  12. Thanks!! that's really good to know! I really appreciate it a lot.... that gives me a lot more hope and confidence!! .... cause, I was put in the end of the list for the spring semester of 08 because I didn't meet the deadline, but I'm planning on applying for the fall semester of 08... I have a total of 82 points... and don't know if that's enough to get in... I notice Chico State don't post the cut off points like Sac State does, but.... if you don't mind me asking.... when did you get in the program? and did you get in when they sent you the letter or were you an alternate that was considered later? cause I know it just gets more competitive each semester... it's driving me nuts!!! can't wait to get my letter in the MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks SOOOOOOOOOO much!!!:wink2::wink2::D
  13. Anatomy was mostly memorization, physio mostly understandable concepts, micro was lots of fun... but at the same time a lot of complicated concepts... stats I'll have to say was EASY... just a lot of formulas... But honestly... taking all these classes together and all in one summer... is just KRAZY! i don't think it's a good combination! You'll be more than sick of studying... but if you don't mind getting a passing grade of C... then i say go ahead, I always think it's good to get an A in your pre-reqs though... it'll get your on the top of the list in the nursing program... especially if your applying for universities... on top of that, you'll be able to do better in the nursing program if you have a better understanding from the pre-reqs... hope that helps!:wink2:
  14. what about the question with the crazy line graph asking about 2 liquids being mixed in 100 ml of water and the temp being brought down to 20 and asking which one was the precipitate. i couldn't even understand that flipping graph. oh well hopefully i'll get a different version next time. good luck on your score! there was also a question about being in space and having 3 boxes and knowing how to choose the one with lead in it vs. the 2 empty ones without opening them. i'm no dummy in science and was expecting that to be my best score, instead it was my lowest score...by 30 points. i had those same questions on the teas! and i struggled on those! don't know if i got them right or not, but i only scored a 73 on the science portion... if you don't mind me asking.... how did you answer those questions? i'm thinking about taking the teas again... thanks!!
  15. okay... i do have to admit the science portion was pretty difficult for me... i only scored 73% in that section... i did great on the other sections but, the science was a whole different story... the study guide shows some of the common misconceptions for the science portion and how the questions can trick you, but really on the actual test... the problems are a whole lot more tricky than the ones in the study guide... the graphs don't have enough info to determine the answers to the question... scientific reasoning was somewhat tricky... all i have to say is that don't spend so much time studying on a&p... there was only like 2-3 questions... but, you should really review on your basic chemistry, physic, and metric conversions... hope that helps! good luck!!:wink2:
